Whois and Alexa ranks

This comes hot off Gene's post below...

I have a domain that has an Alexa rank of 9 million+

However, when I do a Whois search on Whois.sc, it shows a rank of 780,000 something, up 8.9 million over the last 2 months.

So what rank would be correct? Whois, or Alexa? Or is Alexa simply lagging by two months?

the alexa rank is usually displayed as a 3-month average, although you can sometimes see the weekly and even daily average. the correct rank is whichever is showing on alexa's website.

btw, the 3-month average is what shows on the alexa toolbar as well.

hmm...
considering that I hand regged the aforementioned domain two months back, such a rank seems pretty odd to me, even though I get decent traffic and a lot of clicks on it..I think I'll wait for a couple of months to see what Alexa has to offer
