I have been browsing various auction listings at sites such as flippa and bido, also here at NP. Many users claim their sites receive well over 1,000 visits per day or more and make $1000 in revenue. However, their Alexa traffic rankings are relatively low (around a million). I came across one that was showing at nearly 10 million, which is really low, maybe 1 or 2 visits per day. Many of my sites where I receive around 100+ visits a day, the traffic rankings sit around the 500-750K rank. If these sites are generating so much traffic why is there rank still showing around 1 million? Does the Alexa Traffic ranking not work the same as it once did many years ago? I have been using it for nearly 10 years now and feel it is a somewhat decent tool to use.

Usually the rank seems to be fairly accurate as I gauge my sites. It is pretty consistent across the board. Do people not validate? Even my Analytics seems to correspond with the Alexa rankings.

for what it's worth, i stopped using alexa years ago

best thing to do is ask for traffic test on your servers of choice, when you doubt screenshots.

Good Luck!

Alexa appears to give failures. Also find it useless.

I've got a site at ~150ish/day with an Alexa ranking of 5mill. I do check Alexa, but mainly for entertainment purposes.

Alexa is a rubbish gauge of traffic generally. If you've been using it for a while you're aware of the skews towards sites that have a large webmaster or Korean audience. And those aren't the only skews!

But there is a plus side to Alexa. You might want to read this article which covers what Alexa is best used for.
