10.3+ Thousand visits last month and 7 Million Alexa?

The alexa rank on one of my sites has fallen quickly but traffic and income are growing. The site was at around 2.5 million earlier this year. Almost all the traffic is coming from Google, yahoo and bing with the highest % coming from google.

Absolutely no paid traffic being sent.

another odd thing is that the .com url of this domain which is a .net has much better Alexa rank but places well under me in all the search engines I've checked most importantly Google which is the main traffic source.

Anyone know what could be going on? Not that Alexa is the most important thing but I'd like to know why this is happening.

3rd: Your competitor and his friends have alexa toolbar installed and they visit the site every day. Alexa only gets interesting if you are well below 100k. Above that the stats are not reliable at all.

Thanks RMG, I do see what your saying but just can't see the site getting to 2.5million, traffic steadily grows and then a sudden drop to 7million. Just doesn't seem like the correct ranking for a site rarely seeing less than 300 visitors in a day and not sure why the sudden drop.

Hi and thanks tetrapak. I have known about the Alexa toolbar trick but didn't know about it being so unreliable over 100,000 .
