-UnitedStatesImmigrationAndNaturalization.com** Made it into the Live auction  is that 40 letters?

Not mine by the way, just a really long one....

If anyone here owns this and wants me to edit the name, let me know.

It's actually becoming more common. Now that all the generics are taken and both the surfer and domainer are smarter the longer domains provide a more accurate result to getting the requested information. I think the trend will continue.

Agreed, I saw this name at a MLB game on TV "whenthegamechanges.com".

I am using quite a long domain for my domain portfolio and free available to register domain lists. I do own the acronym too and have it forwarded ;)

My Word is My Bond . com
M W i M B . com

If the acronym hadn't been available, I probably wouldn't be using the domain, even though I love it. I know how frustrating it is to have to type long URL's. Even worse, you mistype first time round and have to do it again :'(

Yes, that is why they say direct type-in. The only issue with longer names that there is great chance for human error the longer the domain gets. I don't about any of you but I don't ever make any mistakes so it's not an issue. LOL. My middle name is typo.
:hehe:

Yes, but it would still be desirable to hold the acronym too, even if it is only forwarded. The 40 character domain in the original post has a 5 letter acronym:

usian.com

I know which I'd rather be typing given the choice.

Long keywords might be great for SEO, but end-users want convenience IMO.

domainsbot had an article that showed that 14 character domain names(.coms generally) tend to have a few of them in the top selling bunch. My domain is :

Mobilewebtools.com

13 characters, but good length too.

I agree and there are a few strong keyword combinations still available for reg-fee mining!

longer domains got drawback. Big mistake is typo error. Forgotten the full length of character. Other is "s" problem. Don't put "s" character at center word .Any opinion.....

Long is okay in .com as long as it's memorable and the word order is pretty much set. I've seen this one on TV lately too:

EatAllYouwantAndStillLoseWeight .com

How long is long?

But then again, What's really considered a long name? For me, I think getting a name with more than 22 letters NOT including the extension is getting in the long category.

do does one calculate the probability of typo rate when the string gets longer?

I think it's less of a problem the longer it gets. It's not likely that many will want the vast number of possible typos for a long domain like those. I think most are not permanent, but more for limited promotions as well.

I have been seeing many long domains lately often connected with very well known brands. Examples:

WaldorfAstoriaCollection.com

TurksandCaicosTourism.com

I like longer names. Many times they are easier to recall than the crazy LLLL domains out there that some people think will be worth so much.

i have sold GayMatchMaking.mobi for $450 even though it is 14 characters long.

I took www.premiumsportsbetting.com. I thought it was worth picking up, even though it was long. A booky with a nice bank roll might pick it up from me. :hehe:
