I was sitting and staring at BD.tv for almost 2 hours, fighting a battle in my head - "should I backorder it" or "should I not backorder it". I was so sidetracked I couldn't get any of my planned work done tonight :lala: Hundreds of thoughts went through my head about the potential of the domain. The pricing wasn't all that bad either, $1890.

In the end I decided NOT to get it even if "BD" has over 100 different meanings, including blu-ray disc etc etc. I think in the end it came down to that I prefer generic domains.

It would be interesting to know who decided to backorder BD.tv and why :)

Anyways, now I can finally go back to work..jeez what some domains do to us hehe

^ Agreed ... I am sick & tired of Verisign milking :$: folks with these "no-more-Premium", yet new "Premium" hefty up-front Reg. fee's! :yell: :imho:

Again, they are the only one sure to make money!

Caveat emptor,

I'm sure whoever picks it up and holds on to it will earn a hefty sum if he/she flips the domain or even has development plans for it. $1890 isn't all that bad if you look at the history of LL .tv sales, especially in the last year or so.

I decided against BD because I dev domains, I don't flip. Wether I would have paid Verisign the 1900 bux or not wouldn't have mattered, in the long run it can be sold for a lot more than $1900.

When I first saw bd.tv I visualized a online blu-ray video store where people can rent, download or watch blu ray movies. Since I'm up to my head in other .tv projects I knew there was no way in a million years I'd find time to develop such a project - so I let it pass.

b2b - as rupert mentioned, it was available at name.com.

It was observed recently - I believe by a Pro .TV'r - that some of the lowest random LL.TV sales in the recent Sedo .TV auction was in the range of $1,500+/- ... and with generally .TV's heading lower in the marketplace (coming off of the hype from said auction) in my opinion; it doesn't make much sense to be handing greed Verisign Mid - High $1,xxx+ at this time for general LL .TV's (for either long-term, or especially for FLIPS)! :red: :imho:
Unique content/development may be another matter, naturally.

Just my two sense,
Jeff B-)

lmfao I don't really have that type of $ to cover the premium reg fee for that right now.
I mean I have $ but its for other things, though it might be a worthy investment! :bingo:

Wow, $1890 for BD.tv. Prices are going up. I got DM.tv for $900 a couple weeks ago and I almost passed on that price. Wish the buyer good luck.

Thanks, Jim

Jeff, it is is in their own best interests to get the highest price possible. Expect to get alot more sick of it in coming months.

I think this one is overpriced though given real word two letter like of.tv and is.tv went for similar prices at auction.

This kind of reminds me when my wife says Nordstrom's is having a 50% off sale clothes, quote " I got to buy, say's the wife"

I tell here what's the big deal on 50% off on something that is marked up
100% already. It's no deal. That is what Verisign is going to do.

How they go from DM.tv for $900 to BD.tv to $1,800 in a couple weeks is a way they are going to "screw us" on the front end.

Thanks, Jim

As part of the imaginary verisign branding and pricing board I can definitively state there three reasons for this:

Firstly it's because lowercase (the norm on the internet) it's bd which looks cooler than dm from a logo symmetry standpoint. For example, david bowie uses db and it's awesome.

Secondly its because in ALL CAPS it looks like a bikini BD.

Thirdly we noticed that there was a user BD on NP who posted on the TV subforums so thought he was a potential end-user... unfortunately we didn't realise he was poor. But it sold anyway so we win.:sold:

Hopefully this clears up your concerns. We're not gouging... we're creatively marketing.

The imaginary versign branding legal representative issues a formal apology. From our perspective you are poor - we wanted to squeeze $2500. We understand from this thread, however, that you :
have $ but its for other things

We apologize for the confusion. That said BD.tv was a great investment (for us). It was like $1800 pure profit... you gotta luv it.

(formally, our position is that this money is not even enough to reflect our bottom line... but whatever, it's all $ ka-ching ka-ching).

If I'm not mistaken, the new 21st century acronym for blue-ray disc is bd...I think.

So if we backorder it at $1900 what will be the yearly reg fee? If we don't get it will we get a refund?
Sorry for the q's/ .tv newbie

Standard renewal. At name.com its a refund. YMMV. I don't know anywhere else that catches dropped prems at the moment. Some claim but they "just fail". I sent an email and was basically told that Verisign didn't help much to identify premiums so they couldn't really help me.

Go figure.
