I often find domains I think might be decent, but always have a hard time choosing between similiar names and terms..So just out of curiousity which of these would you choose? Btw, all are available to reg. if anyone is interested. I'm just posting this for the sake of learning :hehe:

fruitdanish.com
fruitdanishes.com
fruitpie.net
fruitpies.net

Personally I think fruit pies are probably more popular than danishes (just a guess), yet the danish is in .com which is better than .net..It's a conundrum.

though I agree with you that .COM's are the way to go, in your case, I would also agree with you that fruitpie.net would be the way to go, you could probably develop it into a website to have it fully monetized.

1. Check the frequency of searches done on the exact term before registering anything to make sure there's enough interest - then only use .com unless I plan to develop (I'll use .net or .org if it's a solid keyword or has obvious potential end-users).

2. Ask myself why these names are not registered yet. It's highly unlikely they were just overlooked. If an end-user felt they needed it, they'd have it.

3. if I think they may get type-ins, I put myself in the shoes of the searcher. If someone is looking for fruit pies, will type-in fruit pie or fruit pies? Unsure, reg em both.

In the example above, "fruit danish" only gets 4,750 Google results - far too low to consider regging imo. "Fruit pie" gets 156,000 - better but not a homerun. The .com has been regged since 1999 but is still just a parked page. This in enough info to tell me I wouldn't reg any of these names. Been there, dropped that. :)
