Which would you choose (and why) if your FirstnameLastname.com (example: BobJones.com) domain was taken by someone else, but the following two options were available to register?

FirstnameLastname.net (example: BobJones.net)

or

FirstnameMiddleinitialLastname.com (example: BobCJones.com)

For me personally, the only time I would consider a .net is if it was my first name only, or last name only. Otherwise, I choose the com. Again, that is just me.

You may also consider first initial, last name, and/or first initial, middle initial, last name; also in .com, if available.

I agree with RevolutionaryDomains. Go for whatever .com is available.

Would do the .com and set an alert on the first/last .com without the middle initial in it in case it ever drops.

I have my last and my first/last .com and someone bought the .net of my last and developed it and I get contact form submissions and free traffic from their .net development.

Depending on my purpose of the domain..

@SpareDomains - Sorry for being a bit late with a reply, but how do you go about setting an alert for a dropping name. What service do you use for that?

I just use the standard Godaddy monitoring included in the Aftermarket/DDC membership. Have a short list of monitored of domains I wish to develop. Once I receive email updates showing progression of deletion then I decide if an upgrade to a GoDaddy backorder is good enough or if I wish to backorder somewhere else depending on how bad I need the name and where it's registered. I've pulled quite a few from GoDaddy backorders but mainly from domains registered there and outta 40+ of my current sites, 34 are "niche" so less eyeballs on the domains I'm usually going for.
