Hello,

If I have the choice of registering two domains (for a personal project of mine, not to resell), should I go for:

1) The domain that sounds better to me (easyauction) or
2) The domain that gets more exact matches in google and returns better keyword results on google (auctionon)

I'm not sure how important the exact matches will be if I can work on the SEO and getting backlinks etc.... The key thing for me here is the keyword "auction". If you type auction into google in the UK, one of the first things that comes up is "bumblebeeauctions.co.uk". I'm betting that they don't auction bumblebees on that website, and the exact keyword searches are practically nonexistant- but it's ranked highly.

I hope you understand my dilemma.

Thanks!

You should choose the domain that sounds better to you. The domain name doesn't really matter that much when it comes to SEO.

Thanks for the swift reply!

Will it matter about the extension (.org vs .net for example), and if so why? I understand .orgs are meant for organisations, but would this effect my traffic in any way if I intend to sell products, for example?

I would go with something that sounds best to you. :)

I would say try to go for the .com but if that's not available then perhaps you should go for the .net. If you really want to use the .org though, register the .net and divert visitors to the .org.

But that's just what I would do if I were to develop a .org and the .com wasn't available.:)

I would go for what's the most memorable for new and returning customers.

Chances are, that would be two English words in .com with no "trick" spelling.
