A friend asked me this question - I couldn't give him a clear answer.

It went something like this...

Fabulous...but they have a minimum req to get the best account (6.95 com 4.95 net 6.65 org)

Estdomains.com is cheap for the big extensions but I don't use them.

Godaddy is good, but you have to find coupon codes to renew at good rates.

Enom - I can create accounts there and you can register for 8.65 per name.. renew at 8.15 (same as net not great pricing)

I use whiz.in for my .in names. They have good standard prices on com org (7.41)

It all depends on what extensions you get, I assume the big 3....So if you are looking at com and org I'd suggest whiz.in which is sorta surprising. Their control panel is the same as snapnames - which is kinda crappy, but the price is low...

-----------

Which sites offer good .net rates and <$8 pricing on org and com? (w/o having to get hooked up with a 'big player' type of account)

Name.com for .com and .net

$5.99 and $5.89 for the first year.

I would get a Moniker.com account with NamePros pricing bringing costs down to $7.44 .com and $6.04 .net

Or Use stargate ( http://resell.biz/reseller.php?action=pricing ) to get names at $7.49 which uses the same interface (logicboxes) as Snapnames/Whiz.in. There is no minimum deposit.

As for ESTDomains, buyer beware.

I forgot Moniker

I have that account too, but haven't used it a lot. Never a huge fan of their support.

I have almost all my .IN domains on Whiz.in, other than that i would prefer recommending Namecheap

Do they have good support? I haven't used them much.

Yeah, Namecheap had excellent support that's the reason most of them prefer.
I pretty like their control panel when compared to GD, but the prices are little more.

I'd concur with this opinion also. Not just because of the cheap prices, and $7.99 renewals or the free whois privacy. But because of their simple control panel, lightning fast registration, free google email for your domains. Email support is under 24hrs (usually just a few hours) during weekdays. They also have a phone number.

I'd go with Namecheap for someone new (right?) and getting a few domains.

Personally, I'd recommend GoDaddy. It's easy to get discount codes, plus if you buy in bulk you get free WHOIS Privacy for a year. I've been a fan of them for a while.

I would recommend GoDaddy.com. I think they are the most well known and easy to use for a newbie.

There are always plenty of coupons to register major extensions for $7-$8.
