I started a forum for photographers who use Fuji X System cameras.

The current domain name is xtogs.com which is short for Fuji X photographers.

I liked this one because it's short, easy to remember, and avoids the use of any trademarked words. However some of our members hate it because they feel that the abbreviation "togs" is demeaning to photographers and has alternate meanings (related to clothes, duvets, old British TV shows, etc) that are undesirable.

Of the other alternatives I could think of, one which I kind of liked (and bought just in case) was myfujix.com. The advantages are that it too is short, and unlike the other one, it is keyword-rich. However, I'm wondering if it isn't too cutesy-sounding (like my little pony or my first _____). Also, Fuji could eventually decide to make us change our name, although usually camera companies don't do that to their fan/user sites (eg, Nikonians, PentaxForums, etc).

So I'm here to ask: Which name should I use, xtogs.com or myfujix.com? Thanks for any advice. Please vote in the poll and also comment.

Please feel free to check out the existing site at www.xtogs.com if you want to get a feel for what we're about. The site is only about a week old.

So far I have two votes for "both are terrible", which is really unhelpful unless you tell me what makes them terrible or suggest a better one!

I also voted for terrible but I will be honest and let you know about the reasons.

It doesn't makes any meaning atleast to me.

I am sorry if I am missing some meaning of the word "Xtogs" here but heard it for the first time in my life.

If you are trying to brand it then try something better.

Thanks.

I do photography, and Tog isn't a great term to describe a photographer. A lot of people hate the term. I would pick something else.

XTogs does not sound at all like what you are trying to talk about. I know you tried shortening it but you took random letters in the middle of the name that do not sound like the service you are tying to provide.

I started a forum for photographers who use Fuji X System cameras.

Now, MyFujiX sounds perfect if people wanted to learn about their "Fuji X" cameras.

I voted for MyFujiX.com

Good Luck

Neither one does a thing for me.

Just a quick scan shows a lot of way better fujix domains available.

Just my opinion of course.

I would not recommend a domain name with Fuji or any other copyrighted brand name especially if you operate your business in the same industry. You could spend a lot of money building this site only to have Fuji's attorneys send you a letter demanding you release the domain or go to court.

Thanks, all, for your comments.

Just a quick scan shows a lot of way better fujix domains available.

If you could share any of those with me, would be very helpful.

Another one someone just suggested on a different site was fujixspot.com. I went ahead and bought that too. Is that better than myfujix.com?

I'm not too worried about the trademark thing. Camera companies don't tend to go after their fan sites.

I think you're wasting your money registering TM domains.

:|

Why would you want to build a site on a house of cards? Perhaps today Fuji won't go after your domains, but, legally, there is nothing to stop it from doing so at any time.

Why not look for a generic camera domain and review different kinds of cameras?

Just an opinion...

I think that if I build a successful site and Fuji makes me change the name (which is definitely unlikely), I can change the name and still keep my members.

Anyway, assuming I am going to use the word Fuji, which is better: myfujix.com or fujixspot.com?

Neither...But....

Neither does it for me but if I had to choose -- xtogs

Now you change it to www.fujixspot.com which is better than xtogs. But you should begin link building with other site with same niche or submit it to web directories, I recommend directoryvault.com for affordable price and wide network. Good luck!

I believe that a keyword dn is not necessary for an internet discussion forum. Over the years there have been many successful forums with non descriptive names... important is the forums content category titles, content within the forum, and member activity... remember, for a discussion forum / board.. content is king!
