I'm going to create a site which will consists of multiple authors that will enable them to create blog posts of their own. Multiple blogs won't be necessary. We just need a single blog.

I am also thinking of member restrictions. For example, an author can only post and edit his own blog posts and he can't modify the theme, plugins and other settings.

I'm thinking of using Wordpress or Drupal.

Which is better to use?

Drupal is more of a CMS type of deal.

I would definitely go with Wordpress.

I really like Drupal-it is a true CMS and will allow for much greater flexibility on how you manage and most important how your community interacts WITH your content-. That last point is critical & key do gaining eyeballs and a following. Drupal really does have lots of tools to help you do that .The learning curve as you may have heard is HUGE. Drupal while to some will be an easy turnkey-to most just the installation process alone will take half a day. It does not hurt to go into Drupal knowing the basics of command line, permissions and directory structure from the command line. Druapl through a GUI while possible is going to take a great deal of pain and time. In addition-the true power of drupal CMS are the hundreds of themes and modules you can select for what you want your site to be about. Again-turnkey for some-for almost all the rest of us mods can take time to understand.
If you want to LEARN and make $ go with drupal-if you need to get going quickly go with another

Wordpress is your easier option. It does anything you could want, and has extensions for anything it missed. There is much less for someone who is not so development-friendly to learn, and they can blog without sweating the semantics.

That being said, I used to run a collaborative blog on Joomla, and having the whole CMS at our disposal, we grew the site however we wanted without restriction.

Depending on the nature of your venture, it can be useful to keep it simple and to the point and possibly upgrade to a full CMS later if you aren't satisfied with Wordpress' capabilities.

Wordpress is easier to get started right out the box and doesn't take much configuration to get started. Also, Wordpress is great for people who don't have a lot of time for the 'learning curve' aspect.

But...

From a developer standpoint, I love drupal. It takes a bit more configuring to get it to where you want it but not much. I find that drupal has much more to offer than wordpress and the developers are top notch.

So to answer your question, I guess you have to figure out which one is best for the people who will be using it on a daily basis. I like both, so I use both depending on the project and the people involved.
