Which domain name for ecommerce site

Hi all

I'm currently building an online store for a client selling bathroom products. They have the following domains registered - .org / .org.uk / .ltd.uk

I don't think any of these are suitable, but they won't pay $4000 for the .com which is up for sale and all others are already taken.

Any ideas???

I agree. Awful, in fact.

Is the .co.uk available for purchase? If the name is generic and they build on one of the lessor or "not immediately business associated" (e.g. .org, .org.uk) extensions, they can reasonably expect to lose traffic to the .com or .co.uk.

.co.uk has gone, but expires 1st Dec, so fingers crossed that may come up.

There's quite a bit of competetion with the other bathroom sites, all of which are .com / .co.uk

I'm even thinking about suggesting a name change for the business to get round it.

My personal opinion is that your setting yourself up for failure without grabbing a great domain. These obscure tld's will drive business to the other tld's. .Org is good but people don't know it for commerce.

.ltd.uk is supposed to be for businesses (Limited)
However it is not much known.

How about the .eu?

.eu has gone as well.

It is a limited company, and I'd say the ltd.uk is the best out of the three, just can't recall coming accross any ecommerce sites that are such.

Do these kind of names get penalised on the search engines in favour of .coms and .co.uks even if they may have more content/incoming links etc.

Maybe you can throw a few letters/characters plus some words together from the company name to make up a new dot com domain - something like:

the company is called ABC Bathrooms for example

try ABCBathroomShop.com or ABCBathroomsOnline.com or ABCB.com etc ...

a lot of companies do this, it's not as good as the one you want but it's probably one of your best options unless you pay the 4k which is what they should do if they are serious about their business or at least make an offer for something close.
