Where to start for traffic?

We have created a great site.. and from word of mouth we have had a few hits. We have registered the url with google, msn, and yahoo as of tonight.

But what next what else should I do? I have no idea what seo is. Backlinks, how do i get this? Any guidance would be great.

where to start for traffic?

To increase your traffic especially for new sites, you need to spend a lot of time and effort. But if you buy advertising strategically, you could save yourself some time. You could then use that time to focus on creating quality content instead of traffic building.

and.. if you don't want to spend a single penny, then manually promote your site. bookmark it,make your keywords ranked in SERPs for an organic traffic,post it to classifieds sites. actually there are a lot of ways, just target your audience or they say your market.

Link exchange is still worth doing. it could give you backlinks,quality ones, in a normal text from your potential link partner, make sure it's relevant.

From the domainer angle:

1) Make up a list of the top traffic domain names in your industry.

Go for type-in traffic domains, I wouldn't worry about old sites.

2) Watch google multiple domain rules though.

3) Attack the very best names in the list. You will also find their are smaller traffic domains, very handy if converting. To attack the list you will need to buy names, track expiring domains, and hopefully register fresh names. You will need watch my domains pro from punch software to collate the whois details.

4) Check names you are buying for TMs, though if a TM holder is dropping a name you are ok, as they are ceasing to use the mark, unless its an error.

In order to bring tons of traffic to your site, you must have a high SERP! The first step would be the picking of right keywords of your site. Choose a keyword with high KEI, meaning high number of searches with low competition. :D
