question When picking a registrar, what should I look for, beside price?

I'm asking this, because I buy the domains where they are the cheapest, but I noticed that after a few years they increase the prices. I happened with many of them, but I tend to move where the prices are cheap. Should I also look for something else?

This is actually a great question. I work for a domain registrar, and I have to say that most people don’t necessarily stay just because the price is cheap. Yes, some do choose the lowest price, but they stick around for the transparent pricing, no upselling, and good customer support, and, of course, an easy-to-use interface.

If you’re a domain seller, I’d also recommend choosing a registrar that’s an Afternic partner.

I understand the easy to use interface, but once you get used to a bad one is still ok, if you have a large number of domains for which you save some money. For customer support, I never had issues, at least not in the last years.

Regarding the second point, why Afternic partner?

What domain registrars do you have in mind?

If you have a few domains not so bad to jump around chasing the best deals every year. Once you get to a certain point though nobody will enjoy moving hundreds or thousands of domains every year. So you're looking for a fair price, decent support, and if the registrar taps into the Afternic or Sedo MLS networks that's a bonus for more exposure on your domain names to show up direct in the registration path. I haven't kept up on the MLS list but a few of the ones that use to cover both Afternic and Sedo were...

DynaDot
NameSilo
Name
Sav
Network Solutions
Enom
Hexonet

You would need to confirm this older list to verify both are covered.

Afternic would be more important but if you can cover both in one shot that's the way to go and one of the reasons I chose DynaDot. If you're strictly chasing the lowest price it's likely that you won't be covered by Afternic and Sedo MLS usually none or just Sedo without Afternic so you have to decide if lowest domain price or domain distribution matters the most to ya.

Namesilo is an Afternic partener. Also Sedo.
The prices are low. With the discount program, .com registration is 10.80 usd.

Spaceship + Namecheap I believe arent Afternic parteners. Correct me if I am wrong.
I dont know about Dynadot or Sav. If anyone knows, let me know.

Yeah, from what i checked spaceship is owned by namecheap. I think they created spaceship so they can test new features without breaking their main platform.

do you use afternic for selling domains? Apparently, afternic favors domains registered with their partner registrars...

If you don't care about the MLS networks of Afternic and Sedo and just looking for price....

SpaceShip $8.88
NameBright $10.44 if ya pre-fund
Sav $10.49
etc...

But I think Sav does hit both Sedo and Afternic or it use to at least. I'm not the right guy to ask for discounts as I'm usually good with DynaDot @$10.88 with the MLS networks or NameBright @$10.44 without them. Sure others can point ya in the absolute cheapest path or sites that can as the deals seem to fluctuate daily...

etc...
