When is the right time to register a name with Overture results?

1. What's the figure of a good Overture result without extension?

2. What's the figure of a good Overture result with extension?

anything with ext is good if other research backs it up. People still love ovt w/ ext, so you can usually get a return on your money.

without ext, it really depends. overture likes to alphabetize it's results, so as long as it's not something like operationsoforder.com because ovt said it got a lot of searches (when really it was for order of operations), anything around 10,000 or more would be a good number. once again, it reaaaly depends.

A lot of variables to play with...

With the extention, anything over 30 should be decent, as long as there are results without the extention as well. Over 50 you can't go wrong 90% of the time.

It can be tricky though; it can be a "flash-in-the-pan" term as in something that made the news last month and is dead by the time you're looking at ovt.
It can also be something "seasonal" that only gets traffic a few months out of the year.
So, for low score names it's best if you wait a couple of months before making a decision. Unless you're familiar with the term and you know it's solid.

If it's a low score term you're unfamiliar with, it could be a foreign extention name which generates searches in the "com" version.
Check the other major extentions to see if this is true. (.de, .co.uk etc) I would reg a name like this (after due research), simply because a lot of users will type in the com version of a cc tld.

Using common sense should play a big part in your decision making, always.

A lot of times the results can be bogus for various reasons. Do a little research before you commit.

Many times a typo will not show results without the extention.

Other times the plural of a term (wordwords.com) will not show results with the ext. but instead the search returns results as: word word
Check the "wordword.com" and if it returns results then wordwords.com most likely gets traffic IF it makes sense.

Be very careful with hyphenated names, because the results mean nothing all of the time. But there are names like that which get traffic, sometimes a lot.

There's so much more to the ovt tool; need to study it a lot before starting to reg names big time. ONTOH, register a few names in the beginning to see if you're on the right path.

My success rate is 80% after using it for 5 years.

To clarify the above: 20% of the regged names do not earn their keep, but they do get traffic and have earnings.

Good Luck!

The last big drop of Ovt w/ext names was a bust,Most didn't hold there ovt w/ext over 4 weeks,And it makes sense,Most were merely redirect names that established thier ovt w/ext from the sites name,It is good to watch these names for a month or two,You say,Then they wont be there to reg?? Well..It goes one of two ways usually,If they don't hold thier hold the ovt w/ext you will find them for $5 on a DN forum,If they are long term ovt w/ext,You may wanna try using pool or snapnames to get them,The traffic buyers and snaps hardly let these gems get through to be hand reged.

I'd rather lose the name than get it and end up with a dud. Don't you?
Like I said, I use this method only on a name I'm really unsure about.
Also, when you're targeting markets other than "com" where there's less competition, there are more chances you can watch a name rise up in ovt value over a period of a few months.
During that time, I always watch search engine activity and news regarding the name. If it looks positive I register at the next update.

Make sense?
