Can someone explain me what is the difference between overture with extension and overture without extension?

For example, i typed a keyword phrase without extension into the overture's search bar and the result was zero, but then, i typed the same keyword phrase with extension and it show 50 as result. How it is possible?

Also, i don't understand the purpose of overture with extension. Why someones would type the domain with the extension in overture when he can do it directly in the address bar of his browser?

Overture with extension is the number of searches made for domainname.com

Overture without extension is the number of searches made for domainname or to be more precise the amount of searches made for that particular term.

I think your missing the whole point of Overture, its just the amount of searches that was done on that particular term or phrase and in some cases, domain for the previous month.

A very generalized question with a few answers :
Many speculators that track specific domains (expired) use overture with extention as a "water mark" for value (traffic indicators).
Another reason....some internet users use domain names with extention in search engines because they don't predominantly surf the web via the address bar.

Let's face it. Why do some endusers pay $35 a year for domain regs at NetSol, when Godaddy/yahoo offer 8.95 and 9.95 domain regs?......some just do.
