Days when i used to sell 1 or 2 .co domains on almost daily basis via afternic and dan combine. monthly sales used to reach between 35 to 45 at peak time. all priced either for 499 or 599 with few exceptions. total .co portfolio was fluctuating between 9k to 12K purchased each for 1.99 or even 0.99 sometimes . what i used to do under this strategy wait for .co 0.99 1.99 offer go to pending delete and sort domains by number of tlds copy paste top 300 domains go to offer registrar bulk search and register all domains available. park on dan and list on afternic for 499 or 599 and get almost daily sale. and even more than 1 sale daily when your .co portfolio reaches close to 10K.

Economics under this strategy -
cost - 1.99*10K = 19900
average yearly sales - 250 for 499(net 399) = 99750
net profit - 99750-19900=79850
no renewals net profit - approx 80K

Note - 1. offer sometimes used to have 0.99 cost but for calculation i have taken maximum cost of 1.99
2. sales price either 499 or 599. but still i have taken 499 as average
3. i have taken 250 yearly average for number of sales but it should br more.
4. i have taken commission as 20% but half sales were from dan with 9% commission.

This strategy was spoiled by dot co registry making every decent dot co under premium registration. also offers on dot co dried up. i followed this strategy successfully for 3 years.

i had tried this strategy successfully with .net too during offer at bigrock way back in 2016 when i started domain trading but on lower scale and didnt pursue further because of lack of offers on .net from registrars.

I had tried this strategy with xyz too last decade. could hardly recover my cost and get small profit. overall it didnt work out.

tried this with ngtlds like .world .one etc result was mixed.

PS. i'm making post on NP after really long time.I was active here till last decade 2020 or so. I missed NP and old members when i was not here. Namepros and its members will always be special for me. Hope you all are doing well.🙏

first rule of registering and expecting good sale out of domain names in ccltlds and ngtlds for me is to check the number of extensions its taken in and 10-20 is never good enough specially when .net like extension is available to handreg. of course there are exceptions always but for me generally minimum extensions the name should be taken in should be far more when considering cctlds or ngtlds. So those names are not great for sure considering number of tlds those are registered is between 10 and 18(should be far more) also .net is available.

Hope my answer helps you understand how are your domains. having said this you never know what sells next as i said exceptions also happen so price your domain for low 3 fig and hope for the best.

I see all sales there
I'm regular reader

I asked because almost all u report there before with... my older sale

I was asking how your sales now cause for most ita fraction of before..
me too.

u?

u had great strategies. do u think or stll try to use same method for more tld? or u stopped bothering on that method?

are u sure tld count and 10k xyz regs wont work??? how long u tried? cause xyz is quite popular. what if we put way lower prices???? u totally tempted me now to try your way with 40 to 99us prices.

let me check my balances
hahah

Following reasons -
1. registry reserving almost every top tld name for premium price
2. Sav like registrar started dot co backorder for 0.98
3. lack of dot co offers.

Yup ideally i report my sales after 2-3 months as i was not active here for long time so i sometime report 5-6months and such older sales too.

and i believe tlds strategy can work now also though i am not sure whether quantity can be increased like before due to following reasons -
1. lack of offers or less frequency
2. registry reserving most of top tlds names
3. competition

Though right now i am focusing on other strategies so currently its not in my radar but yes i will get there soon. whenever i get there i will obviously have to make some tweaks to adjust to current scenario. overall i still believe in above strategy.

as for talking about xyz particularly i had tried this tlds method for xyz before 2020 i.e before xyz web3 boom before crypto boom so i feel i was too early and after that i was set with dot co. Although i still registered some crypto companies web3 names in xyz during 2021-2022 but it not under top tlds method but all random web3 crypto names and i was able to sell few for really good 5 figures. or high 4 fig minimum and make decent propfit. but that trend at least for me didnt last as long, i also didnt pursue beyond some names and 1-2 years. so even from that method of xyz i got out comapratively fast and didnt test for too long time. since then i have not got into xyz in any form. Seeing some xyz sales in high 5 fig even i feel sometiems to again check it out and work on some strategy but there is only limited things you can do at a time. and my domaining plate usually stays full if not overly filled.

I heard of a guy who became millionaire from selling 100us max per name. lol

maybe with my now 1 or 2 sale per year tho domain gods blessed me with 5fig 1 or 2 last sales lol I should now try get 10k top tld taken xyz names.. I guess 2us each.. and put bin t
50us each.

I will try to work math on that

sounds crazy
but desperate time desperate measure hahah

They shouldn't be allowed to do that. The sole purpose of a registry and registrars is to register names.

Hi

and the registrars shouldn’t be allowed to auction expiring domain names either.
:)

I think the . co registry was trying to stop domainers from hoarding, so they tagged damn near all their drops with premium reg/renew prices

other registries have followed the same script for the landrushes.

why, do somebody always gotta come along and frick up a good thing -

imo….

Agree with this but then the big drop catchers would catch everything any auction it off anyway so it would just be the same.

I think they realised the money to be made in domaining so used that excuse to basically become domainers themselves.

co just got greedy

it's that simple. they saw people selling their names for 1000s and wanted to be the ones selling them. the only way to do it was set higher reg prices

which they did

I'm sure it made them way more profit

and killed co for us

Thanks for sharing — really interesting read. The math on 10K regs with a 2.5% STR makes sense, and shows why it worked so well when .CO was wide open. Once the registry started premiuming everything, that model just couldn’t continue.

Curious — did you ever see better than 2.5% in your best months? And with DAN’s 9% vs others’ higher commission, did that change your net much?

Do you see any extension today where a bulk/low-cost strategy could still work, or has the market shifted too much?

Thank you and yes in some months it was way better and some days it was slow hence i have taken an average that too i have taken the lowest minimum average in counting profit and maximum average in counting expenses. as for your dan question that too i have already mentioned about it. posting my above quote

With registering reserving most of the names and lack of offers so it seems difficult. Although if given a chance i will still do it for .io .co .net .org .xyz obviously i cant follow it like before, there would be certain changes for sure i will make after researching and understanding the current scenario. Currently i am not focusing on this strategy although i will start with some experiment if any offer is provided.

Thanks for your positive insights . I would like to wait for further response, once you get such offer. It proved you are a thoughtful strategist with clear horizon,

Precisely. It could backfire on them, if people learn that you can only register "crap" names through them!

It’s fascinating (and a bit frustrating) how registry policies shifted and essentially closed that window of opportunity by pushing so many .co names into premium tiers. That really changed the economics for bulk investors.

Your numbers are impressive, 250 sales/year at $499 with minimal acquisition cost is the kind of ROI most domainers dream of! It’s also a good reminder that timing, market conditions, and scalability all play huge roles in domain investing success.
