Once again asking the experienced domainers of NamePros a dumb newbie question.

Do you use Ebay to

1) Sell a crappy domain hoping someone will bite

2) Sell a decent domain knowing it will get good action and csh

3) Selling an absolute winner of a domain which will obviously get you thousands maybe even tens of thousands.

And please feel free to share any experiences.

My experience with ebay is that you will not get anything close to top dollar or even much above reg fee unless you have a killer domain. I would only use it as a last resort for selling a domain.

I use ebay as a last medium to sell. I have gotten some good returns on some really crappy names and recovered 3 to 4x my reg fee.

NO. Fees are too high and you will probably loose money.

2) Sell a decent domain knowing it will get good action and csh
Maybe. It was good doing so months ago but recently not even this level of domains are selling for reasonable money, let's PR6 with good back links. Months ago they were getting U$300, now you are lucky to get $50!

NO. Experienced domainers seem not to trust eBay due the high number of fake/stolen domains reported recently.

This my experience. Certainly some people will disagree with me.

1)

I mostly use eBay when I have crappy domains about a specific products (i.e. Wii, Mylo, Xbox).

Ive used ebay many times. Never had any success with it. I would definitely recommend against it.

BTW: to answer your question on no #3, If I had a domain that could make that kind of return then no way in hell. I would hire a broker/lawyer and proceed with an escrow service.

Never.

Ebay is too expensive, Paypal is too expensive especially for smaller transactions and generally there's too many idiots, non-payers and garbage listings on Ebay.

I sometimes buy stuff through Ebay though. Mostly CDs, art and giant 6ft x 4ft movie posters. Oh and I bought a domain... once. :)

Then, what is the best place to sell not-so-good/ordinary domains? :p

For not-so-good/ordinary domains your selling alternatives are:

- TDNam ($5 minimum commission)
- Afternic Bazaar (dutch auction with low listing fees and no commission)
- on-line boards such as NamePros

For real low end selling - selling on NamePros and accepting NP$ is a good alternative - no selling commission and no PayPal costs.

i never sell domains on ebay ... because the profit goes down ... keep it to large domain forums and sell it via paypal ... so only paypal fees .. none of the other fees required.

I like that info.

I have only sold a domain on eBay once, and I have to say that I think I got a lot more than I would have on any other market. The domain was a LLL.us, and at the time there was a lot of hype about them, so I got myself a nice price. That being said the only domains I would even consider selling on eBay are domains that are extremely popular at that point in time, or are a trend at the moment.

I use it occasionally to sell a domain that I have no other hope at selling.

I have never found success via EBAY for crappy, medium range or great domains. LOL ! As some have aluded to their fees are pretty high when you think about it. Sedo was probably the best for me. Forum sales work the best for me now. :)
