Every day, thousands of domain names are registered, some are memorable, some are brandable, and others are catchy.

So, what about you? :glasses:What was the very first domain you ever registered, and what lessons did you learn along the way?

I had bad domaining start and was like minus 20k total net ROI after 4yr of domains

I think I actually used my credit card to keep going.

in a way going deep into negative was best thing that happened cause it forced me to learn and work twice as hard just to dig me out of domain debt lol

but yeah it was bad

now I'm so hot that i can look at a name even with eyes closed and in 10 nano seconds I can tell if sellable or not

Haha, sounds like it was just sitting there humming a little tune, waiting for you to log back in after all those years!:xf.grin:

No worries, bro! Weโ€™ll jot them in the notebook and let them die lol:ROFL:
By the way, @nicenic, as I always and often say, a name is just a name, and this rule applies to the domain names and TLD too: Mercedes is still a used female nice name as it was before it became a worldwide recognized automotive brand, to bring an example; the magic happens when just ' a name' met 'just a brave person' who can wrap a brand all around that name, who can create marketing around that name, who have a phylosophy to associate with that name, who have something valuable to sell with that name.

First one just for reselling purposes was ClantoClash.com.

That's when I realized that I can't just buy a domain and sell it for a bajillion dollars XD

First domain ever was 2001 that I made into a coupon site. Made $200 a month from it, quit my job (parents weren't happy at the time about that decision) to try it full time. 8 months later was making more than the job I had just quit. The site was getting national and local press, even had the local NBC affiliate come over and interview me for TV. Then parents got behind it, and said get an accountant, business license etc. Got up to #2 in Google for coupon codes.

Second domain was 2002, also became a site, was a trademark violation, didn't know much about that stuff at the time. It was bath-and-body-works.com, they eventually took the domain. Bath and Body Works was using bathandbodyworks.com but weren't selling anything on the site. My gf at the time was a huge fan, so I made a site, put up a link to the only place you could buy bath and body works online at the time, ebay, and the money came flowing in, since it was ranked #1 on all the major search engines. I think I got the attention of the company because I also had a forum on the site and employees were leaking sale info and other stuff that the company didn't like. It became the go to place for people into their products.

"Exactly! A name alone wonโ€™t do the magic. Love your Mercedes example, mate!:xf.wink:

Hi iklane, I have a feeling there's a special story behind your choice of this domain๐Ÿ˜. If you're happy to share, I'd really enjoy hearing it.
hi nicenic : Yes indeed I intended to build a cosmetics brand on this site but I was not successful in that so I put it up for sale

Come on, DomainBox! :sneaky:

In domaining, there are no dumb names. Only creative ones waiting their turn!
