Every day, thousands of domain names are registered, some are memorable, some are brandable, and others are catchy.

So, what about you? :glasses:What was the very first domain you ever registered, and what lessons did you learn along the way?

Ah, 2012 is the good old days when LEDaquarium was the place to be! What inspired you to choose the domain name?

At the time (not sure how it is now) you didn't own a .ws domain, you rented it and couldn't transfer it out anywhere. I didn't like that.
Understand how you felt at that time. It seems like renting a house with no keys, which live there, but canโ€™t really move in.

Don't remember. The difference was that3-4 years ago you could liquidate very mediocre names and get your money back. Today you cannot liquidate even ok names that could sell for xxx or xxxx.
Haha, sounds like the domain market went from "easy sell" to "tough crowd". ๐Ÿ˜ฒHow did you notice this shift?

My first was streamlight.com back in the 90's. I intended to develop it but let it expire. The flashllight company picked it up pretty quickly.
Lesson learned? There's a whole world of opportunity with domain selling. Hang on to the good ones!

(My first post. Loving this site!)

StockDoctor.net in 2021 just after discovering domaining through namepros.
Later I realised there is an Australian company with that name. I thought they will be suing me for Trade mark violation
Eventually dropped it.

Not too shabby for the first domain you've ever registered. How did you price it? Did it sell, did it drop? :)

I couldn't remember many details so I had a quick look on the way back machine and it seems the domain was registered on and off since the early 2000s.

I remember back then I registered names at UnitedDomains because they were/are a Sedo partner registrar. For some reason I thought Sedo were the main players in domain sales which was probably more true in 2013 than it is now.

Looking at DNS history the name was parked with Sedo for a year between 2013 and 2014 which is about right time wise.

To answer your question though, I would have probably priced it in the hundreds rather than the thousands and I remember paying for a homepage/spotlight listing at Sedo and getting a congratulations your domain has so email a few days later... alas the buyer didn't pay and I was gutted lol. I dropped the name without a sale.

I don't actually remember my first sale but do remember my first 1k sale which was viral.cc probably not too many years after that.

Cool, what did you intend to use this domain name for?

We built websites for people then I relocated to another part of the nation and took on a different venture, went a different direction.

Herbal-Remedies.net

Man I had a lot to learn.
The domain, with lots of great herbal science, is clear and concise. :xf.wink:

Learning is a constant source of motivation to make progress. Keep going together!

PetCrates.com in 2002. Incidentally, that was also the first domain I sold 2 or 3 years later. I had originally built some lame affiliate link site on it, but researching for it was how I discovered domains.
