Whats the deal with .TEL

Isnt there supposed to be a .TEL extension in 2007. It is supposed to replace phone numbers, for use with voip. I would think having the most prestigious phone numer will become big business. Its going to replace some of the following:

* home telephone numbers

* mobile telephone numbers

* home fax numbers

* personal email addresses

* pager numbers

* work telephone numbers

* work telephone extension numbers

* work email addresses

* work fax numbers

* instant messaging addresses

* and other contact information

Anythoughts a little bit of overlap with .mobi? Will it "water down" the impact of .mobi

I have not heard of this supposed TLD. Their is a listy on here of all the new TLD's that are going to be release this year, and i do not see it.

"What the hell were they smoking when they thought of that!!!"

From what I understand, its basically just a little portal that the domain name owner links their phone number and contact information to. Seems like a good alternative to me is Google Mobile.

Im sure it wont replace .mobi, but some names will have to have value based on pure speculation. I have been patiently waiting to bring it up here, I heard the first day they announced it early this year. I already have bought a bunch of names like TelRegistration.com, Tel-Phonebook.com TelListing.com blah blah blah you get the idea. I suspect it will fetch me a few hundred, just like I have MobiResource.com and MobiSimulator.com - those names got me a few offers. I am sure these names will sell just because of speculation. Once Voip is on every cell phone and home phone - And it will be, .Tel will become worth the investment. Dialing Faxme.tel will be easier than faxing to someone in europe from Hawaii. I dont have to look up fax codes for europe.

I think any phone directory related domains or extensions will have huge traffic.
