So what's the deal with .tel?

So I'm a little confused about the coming of ".tel" So it's for phone calls, voip, and the such? And how is it going to affect .mobi?

Can anyone care to explain?

EDIT: well, after reading this, I suppose it is a bit vague. The way I interpet it is that when phones (wired and wireless) start becoming predominantly VOIP perhaps this .tld will replace phone numbers as a way to commicate directly with the owner of the DN. The site gives this example:

"The .Tel domain will enable people to reach a business from any Internet enabled device (computer or mobile) simply by typing, for example, "Hertz.tel". The user will then be able to connect directly to a Hertz representative or navigate through a list of services that Hertz may offer."

I would think so. No matter what the TLD, LLL always seems to go fast.

Meh, another useless TLD. I doubt anyone who isn't involved with domains will ever both using .tel or .mobi. Maybe if the media covered these new TLDs I'd be interested.

I couldnt agree with you more. Gratned i think .tel will have some high profile buys and sales. But through it all people are going to use the .com. UNLESS websites are being created especially for the mobile phone. With these extensions.
