I recently contacted them for the second time ever, the first time I made an offer, and I got huge attitude, so i walked away... This time on another poor quality name (but it would work good for a clients project) I made an offer, they are asking $1288, i offered mid XXX, I DIDN'T EVEN SAY ANYTHING, JUST MADE AN OFFER and instead of a negotiation, I got a nasty email from "Timothy Macduff Sr. Account Manager", which said, and I quote "We do not sell domains at the level or close to the level of your offer. Alex, your offer is far from it."... WTF is that? Don't put a make offer button on your site if you don't want offers, I had to reply, explaining how negotiations work, and adding a few choice words... Am I in the wrong here? I mean why wouldn't they just come back with any price to start a negotiation? Must be like the DMV in that place... sheesh...

I don't blame Tim. You're what we call in the domain industry as a "tyre kicker".

It's their domain name, they can reject whatever they want. Not sure what the purpose of this topic is.

They probably get low ball offers like this all day, their response was pretty reasonable IMO all things considered

This post is from last December so not going to waste time on this, all I was saying is if you say make an offer, then clearly you should want offers… if you don’t then only put buy it now, if someone is too low on the offer, then you counter. Don’t be rude, just counter… simple…

I don't know how buydomains works, but if the sales person makes most of their money from commission, they might have gone a while with no sales but a lot of low ball offers. A lot of people think your method of negotiating is rude too. Not everyone is into the offer that is way below just to bring up the price slow. The make offer is designed for reasonable offers, and I agree with those that don't bother replying at all the low ball offers, long term it pays off as most end up making higher offers.

Next time you walk into that car dealership buy the car. Do not ask for any discounts. Do not research what the car is worth. Just buy it.

Any offer below 50% of the listed price is inherently rude. Try that when buying a house or a car, and see how the seller reacts.

Then don’t put make an offer with no minimum. Yes, I know you can ask wherever you want but take into consideration that most of there domains have the same generic price and the offer made on this specific domain was once again extremely generous… this is the last post for me on this thread as this is going nowhere. The customer moved on, I moved on, and everything worked out.

Did you find it in the same rulebook as "close your door if you don't want me to steal your tv"? You treated BuyDomains.com like an amateur listing their first domain for $1m on ebay, they didn't respond well to that treatment. From the business point of view, yes, they might have responded with a 1.2k offer and then maybe negotiate down to 1k min. Instead they decided that your lowballs were not worth their time and additionally make sure you get lost, and who are we to judge? People are just people. And then we have you, acting all surprised and offended that someone didn't want to waste their time on your nonsense. People are just people.

And btw does your client know that you didn't act in their best interest? That you didn't buy a domain that "would work good for a clients project" for a mere $1,288 because you got offended? They might have "moved on" but are they aware what they missed out on?

You wrote "they are asking $1288, i offered mid XXX"

I would never walk into a car dealership that is asking 50k for a car and offer 25-30k, that is rude and disrespectful. Those social media "gurus" that sell courses like to stage negotiation videos that show them offering 5 dollars for a million dollar home and the home owner is desperate and he takes it. I hope you are not a victim of these "guru" videos. 🙏🏼
