Hi Guys...

I would like you to share your experiences of getting lowballed by BuyDomains and NameMedia...

It'll be interesting to know how low offers you have got on a domain.

---------- Post added at 03:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:26 AM ----------

I'll start with mine...

I had a good domain and enquired that what can I get for the domain after have it pawned through

RickLatona's DigiPawn...

And got a reply with a x,xxx$ offer.

Then I decided to sell the domain to BuyDomains with the same amount as I was getting for pawn.

But got a reply that my price is too high and rejected...

After 2 weeks a NameMedia representative contacted me and offered me 70$ for that domain...

I was truly amazed at the situation ....D-:

Search BuyDomains here and you'll see plenty of similar results.

I tried once last year, I think.
No need to get upset.
Just don't sell it.

I did not sell mine :D

I have nothing against BuyDomains, though.
It's just how they run their business and must be working ;)

I think it's a smart business model. BuyDomains.com is taking advantage of domainers' occasional sudden, spasmodic needs for quick cash. Domainer gets some money (maybe 5-10% of the domain's market value, perhaps on a name he bought for 1-2% of present market value in 1997, so he/she's still profiting) and BuyDomains.com an excellent bargain. BuyDomains.com is also a well-established company that sellers could trust not to unexpectedly back out on sets of offers they've made. Like copper said, if BuyDomains.com weren't profiting off this liquidation model, they would have discontinued it long ago. Clearly, BuyDomains.com is sucking in dozens, if not hundreds of spicy-hot bargains each day.

Talhassan:

My name is Pete Lamson, I am the General Manager of BuyDomains (part of the Marketplace division of NameMedia).

I thought I would jump in and provide an overview of the options NameMedia offers to domains sellers.

Domain sellers are offered two very different alternatives when considering selling their names to or through NameMedia. The two options offer the trade offs of liquidity vs. value capture.

1. Sale to NameMedia. This offers the benefit of an immediate liquidity event for sellers, however at a wholesale (lower) valuation. Domain sellers looking for instant cash may choose this option. We fully recognize that this option will not achieve the objectives of sellers wishing to receive retail value for their names. There is also no guarantee that NameMedia will have interest in acquiring all names submitted to our Acquisition Team โ€“ names must of course also meet NameMedia portfolio objectives (business orientation, vertical focus, tld, character count, language, etc.).

2. Sales of Your Names via AfternicDLS: This will be your best bet to capture maximum value per name as the names are sold on the retail market to businesses (or โ€œend usersโ€) all over the world through the DLD global distribution network, however it will take some time for your names to sell. Essentially, you are trading immediate liquidity for a higher value capture.

A domain seller looking to sell at full retail price (or even close to retail) should select โ€œOption 2โ€ above. Alternatively, a domain seller looking for quick cash (and accepting the valuation tradeoffs of this immediate liquidity) might consider Option 1.

So the question to you is โ€“ what are your sales objectives? Rapid sale and immediate cash โ€“ or a longer term sale at a higher value?

Our sales programs are designed to meet both objectives - one through the more liquid wholesale market, and the through the more lucrative (but less liquid) retail market.

I hope this helps clarify things - feel free to ping me anytime at 781 839 2812, or [email protected] if I can be of further assistance.

All the best,

Pete

Dealt with Pete .

He is very supportive and his actions made me change my mind a bit.

I myself joined the Afternic .

And I think it's just their strategy for business.

Just want to add that sometimes your Domains that are not selling anywhere for even $3 would get Buy Domains offer in the Mid-xx Range as most of us never know what Domains are in demand by various end-users better than Buy Domains considering the Huge Size of their Portfolio and their end-user experience and offers that they would be receiving on a daily basis and so some of your Domains might get more than what you or other Domainer's think they are worth, so I suggest there is no harm in submitting your Domains to them and have a look at what they are willing to Offer.
Registering Decent Searched keywords in net and org extensions mostly gets good offers from them in my experience as compared to two word dot coms with less search data.

Hello,
I have just finished dealing with buydomains.com and I will share my experience....

I first communicated with them regarding a domain that I was interested to buy that was held by them some time ago.

After I made an offer once I knew the asking price.

They sent me a message like this:

I wanted to touch base to see if you are still interested in (domain).com. I have tried to reach you a few times but we have not connected.

I am not sure if you received the pricing I sent over or not. I am going to assume that you have.

We do have some flexibility on pricing; if you would like to submit and offer, let me know.

Please let me know where you are at with your decision on this domain. I will be happy to give you a call to answer any questions, if you are available.

I then replied and told them how much I was interested in paying for it again and said I had already sent my offer.

Again I got no reply.

They then again sent another email a week later to see if I was still interested.

I was getting a bit annoyed by this stage so I sent an email and I wrote:

"How about responding to my emails, I find it incredibly arrogant you write to me requesting I contact you yet you totally ignore my last two emails."

Their response was this (no name or any details included:

Never received any.

I wrote back including all the previous emails with sent details I had sent to them:

Their response was this (no name or any details included:

So they also didn't even bother to say where I stood now after I made the offer. Didn't bother to say we are sorry but we won't accept that or we will ask the client if it is enough, no nothing and this is absolutely so unprofessional it is appalling. I would never have anything to do with this company after this.

I was thinking of using buydomains.com to sell some names but I doubt I will bother now, many other good places to choose from.

OneWordOnly:

Many thanks for sharing your experiences with BuyDomains.

Clearly, your interactions as described with our company are not at the level of professionalism to which we aspire.

So that we can improve and prevent a recurrance, I am hoping you might share some additonal details. To this end, I just sent you a PM.

Thanks again - your experiences and opinions matter to us.

Pete

I thought I should post that Peter Lamson from BuyDomains got to the bottom of this issue. He also offered the domain I was interested in for a discount of 25% off what I was quoted.

So thanks to Peter Lamson and his help.

I just got a really lowball offer for several $x,xxx domains in the $100-$25.00 range.
I wrote back and said.If you try hard enough you may be able to get sex.com for a few grand>:(

Lowballing is second nature to all domainers. What are you all children complaining about?
