Couple of good rules to follow ... don't squat on charity related domains ... don't squat on companies/organizations that are well known for legally pursing their TM and have lots of lawyers on retainer ... not unless you have more money than you know what to do with.

Anyway, a common rule of thumb is, if it's well known, it's trademarked and therefore you should stay away from it, unless you have the money to defend it.

it's the age old TM - TradeMark thing. If the redcross wants it bad enough, they can get it without any resistance from a registrar and/or court.
In this case, i'd support them going for it, they sure try to do enough good things.
As many other NPers already indicated, i would get with the redcross headquarters and see if they are interested in obtaining the name through a charitable contribution from your side. If they are not interested, let them state so in writing.
I'm guessing your idea wasn't a bad one, just with the wrong item and organization in mind.

As some have said, squatting a charity domain isn't really cool. I don't see any value in this domain. .mobi domains are meant to be for sites that are targetted at mobile devices, some of which have don't have more than a 2 inch screen. .mobi domains will only have value in the near future if a site targeted at mobile devices is able to be developed under the domain name in question. Unless you can do that the .mobi is worthless right now.
