Some domains get traffic, so traffic equals possible $. Parking programs match your name with various advertisers who pay them a certain amount per click referral. They display various paid links on your domain and give you a small portion of the referral payout.

Domain parking is great but it is not for every one and for all situations.

domain parking always beats doing nothing.

A one pager on a "platform" site is better than parking IF YOU HAVE GREAT RELATED AFFILIATE RELATIONSHIPS already set up and if you can get your one pager to show up in SEs well.

And ofcourse a site or mini site is best of all but all really depend on your objectives for your domains and you skills. Anyway domain parking is something that everyone should be doing right away until you figure out what else you could be doing with your domain. Its free and fast.

Domain parking is also and immediate meter of type in traffic. Your domain parking account will have great traffic details. You will know right away if your domain has type-in traffic or old old (invisible) links coming into it. If you are getting a few hits a day by doing nothing you can actaully then count on making a small income stream of your domain. If dont get any hits in your first week you will have hard time even covering your annual renewal fee. But covering the annual reneval fee is quite easy to do but you must set up your domain parking spot correctly.

I have just started a small journal on my parking experiences and intend to add a lot more information there as I learn more.

www.domainparkingguru.com _ sorry for looking into the future and crowning myself guru right off the bat. :)

Good luck

so the domain in the domain parking belongs to you? Like you have to register it before setting it up? or does the site register for you?

You have to already have the domain to be able to park it.
Most registars have a park page available. If you want to
make some money park it with Sedo.com

Good Luck

but i saw somewhere that this host provides free domain parking. So it's only free if the domain is transfered to them?

Thanks - glad you liked the domainparkingguru journal. That motivates to really get more info in there. I guess a domain parking 101 would be in order.

RED EYES - yes domain parking is free but you must have your own domain. You cannot park a domain unless the whois name and info match your domain parking account.

domain parking is great FOR WHAT IT IS and if you set it up right!

Well said guys. I have nothing to add. Park your domain only if you have nothing better to do for it and try to earn money if it gets hits.

You dont transfer your domain to where it's parked. It can stay where it is registered. You just set the dns info or do a domain forwarding. verys simple and listing and optimizing it at the domain parking site is super easy too.

I am amazed to see so many names not being parked. It is basically lost revenue every day. (even though in some cases we are talking pennies)

and future traffic loss... (especially for valuable generic domains). But...
