Thought I would start a discussion on how others may rate what they consider the most important characteristic in an expired name. I have found alexa is the quickest to fade and sometimes the easist to get, page rank for many is numero uno, then there is OVT, the age of a domain, if it is Dmoz listed and so on...

I tend to try and go for the Quality of the actual name as number one - but its not on the list ?

The rest are just a bonus :)

Order would be > Quality/usability > extension > age/length > Backlinks > Overture > PR > branding Potential

extension >> branding (recognizability w/o explanation)>> length

i go by this order under normal circumstances. of course, there are some domain names where i don't care about the extension:
gps, dentist, etc. would be some of these,...killer keywords should be a nice reseller even with ccTLD(s).

just :imho:

Although it sounds funny - We look for older Expired Domain names - The reason being is the older they are, the better they tend to be. Go back before 2002 and you can find some quality domain name expirations - after that, the quality just begins to fluctuate.

Also, considering prior to 2002 - .com was without a doubt the tld to acquire, so fewer weak TLD's before this.
