This morning I receive a SEDO e-mail with an offer on one of my TV names - a name I have had for some time and actually have plans for. The offer is for $250.

I think nothing of the offer, I'm not changing plans for a few pennies, so bounce back with $5000.

Same day I now find myself with further offers from other people - all on the same name and all lowball initialisers. I then discover a major (MAJOR) corporation has just acquired most of the other extensions in that name for their much talked about new product. The reach of the new name - if used - would be everywhere.

If you were in a similar position, would you still sell for $5000 if any of the SEDO bidders come back - or would you simply end discussions and get on with life - but at the same time being aware that you 'might' get a call from a corporation with a very big interest and recent trademark on your name.

Part of me says I should take the $5000 - as it is money in the bank in uncertain times - but another part of me thinks it might be a far more valuable name at a later date. Of course, nothing yet takes me away from carrying on with my plans for the original reason I bought the name.

What would others in this position do if faced with the same decision?

Did you get an "money in the bank" offer ... for $5,000?

Jeff - the offers have all been lowball so far as I noted in the first post.

The question is purely hypothetical, assuming one of the suitors comes back with a figure of $5000.

IF they come back and accept, I would say to take it.. Is there a premium renewal?

There is no premium. It is very much a brandable four-letter name - which is why I bought it in the first place.

Strangely, it was the also the codename of one of our mini-projects just before Christmas.

Thanks for the clarification. :gl:

^ Sell it promptly, IMHO. :music: :talk:

Keep it! You are obviously not short of money. I do not believe in cyber squatting, but as you had it prior to this company acquiring all the others, you have a good driving position. If it is a MAJOR player, you might get more than you think.

Furthermore, you had ideas for it and it is also a 4 letter name... Keep it if you dont need cash.

Thanks everyone for your advice. It is much appreciated.

I am especially grateful to the member who PM'd and made a couple of amazing observations.

(There are some truly intelligent and knowledgeable people on the TV section and although we don't hear from them too often - they are VERY smart guys! - but somewhat a mystery)

Upshot is, I'm hoping that none of the suitors come back - and will then get on with my original development plans.

Take the $5000 IMO.

Jimbo, why do you want to get on with your original development plans for this domain when the brand name will certainly be overshadowed by the large corporations new product and development of the rest of the top extensions? Do you have an advertising budget to compete?

"but another part of me thinks it might be a far more valuable name at a later date"

I doubt it, take the money, usually these kind of offers come around once.

Without even asking I knew the name, and checking whois verified that, So I agree with Nice Domains why would you develop when you certainly cannot compete with a major multi national as far as advertising and marketing. I think you will see more action for the name, no doubt a lot of domainers low balled you on SEDO hoping they could then get the offer from the end user or maybe approach them (which IMO would be a mistake) you sit in a great position because you owned it before they had the name or the tm. Sit back, wait, you have the benefit of knowing who the end user is and you will be able to get a great price IMO.

Equity - If anyone was going to guess the name - it would be you - and you were absolutely spot on. Very impressed. You are just too intelligent at times.

I agree, and will stick with my decision to keep to my original plan - regardless of how big my new neighbour has become.

Snoop - I got to say that you are absolutely correct with the advice you give, and under normal circumstances I would have totally agreed - but I hope you don't mind if I don't follow your words this time.

Thanks everyone for your advice - especially that by PM. Much appreciated.

This really does show Namepros at its very best!!!

Intrigued. Care to share without revealing everything?
Thanks,

I fully agree with Ray, your name has great value, wait and enjoy the offer$. No worry you regged it well before the 'end-user' you are on the safe side.

They had no tm, did not even own the .com, I know the name, Jimbo asked me to remove it. I am sure by Lambda post he knows the name too, and I agree Lambda they paid $27,000 for that product .tv.

What is the ROI ... based on the offer of $250?

PS. Folks are getting just a little carried away here ... for receiving an offer for only $250, along with a hypothetical counter at $5,000 for an supposed and undisclosed ".TV" domain name, IMHO.
