I was thinking of registering my name www.joshuaslone.com to make a blog or something else

anyway i was thinking of registering .com,.net.org
but is this overkill because i am just worried about some nasty dude making .net or .org a xxx website

also if it's a personal site should i go with .com

How common is your name? If it's Joe Smith or something very common the .com may already be taken :)

If your name is not particularly common just register the .com for now. If the site builds and become large then register the others when you can.

..Just my 2 cents :)

I have mine in .com, .net, .org, .info, .co.uk, .tv and have just dropped it in .mobi (I only got that because it was cheap). Apart from .co.uk which diverts to the .com and the .info which I keep re-registering because it's just $2, I have four different intended uses for the four extensions.

I would register your name in .com (and your own ccTLD extension) straight away- especially as you've posted it in a public forum and one bad apple might register it just to deny you or try and make a quick buck). It really is up to you whether you get the .net and .org too- if you're not planning more than one site under your name then just get the .com.
PS- it has also been registered in .com previously, according to DomainTools- so there may be another one of you out there...

Register the .com. Unless you have plans for the .net/.org, I'd leave it at that. Registering just to prevent the situation above is extreme overkill.

Save the reg and renewal fees and just get the .com.

I've seen personal sites work seamlessly at .com, .org, .net.
