Just curious.. What was the biggest amount of money paid for a single domain name?

I know domain name business.com was sold for 7.5 mln $, but it was long time ago. Any new records?

Biggest confirmed sale I've heard of was Business.com for $10 million (I might be off).

The domain was stolen and had a settlement in that range, but I don't believe it has ever been sold (despite rumors.)

hard to tell, most high number sales are actually because of the company, not the domain.

I guess that sex.com was sold for 65 million. Due to a lawsuit the plaintiff got the money.

wow, seems like it was a hard question, nobody knows the answer. Does it mean that some of the biggest sales were kept in secret?

Yes, but I think we have to seperate the company from the domain. Otherwise, MySpace is worth 600 mil +...as more and more premium domains get developed, it's harder to evaluate the "pure" value of the domain relative to the business surrounding it.

Check out domain sales stats at Duke's site.

http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm

Check our new cover story just posted today:
http://www.dnjournal.com/

It's all about sales at the high end of the market and prices for some were just revealed for the first time in this article, like Beer.com at $7 million which is the highest cash deal for a domain only that has been publicly reported to date. It was later learned that the $7.5 million Business.com sale involved a lot of stock (that became close to worthless when the bubble burst in 2000) rather than cash.

I think that's a very good assumption :) A lot of the "big players" like to keep things nice and quiet..

Big sales are kept quiet i believe makes the public guess and potentially hype a domain to a higher value.

IMHO AsSeenOnTv.com for $5.1 million is the best sale, because it's an expression, not a dictionary word.
But it was in the '2000 internet boom...

BTW, when you see how ugly is http://www.asseenontv.com i think they did't have any more money to have a designer
