domains that are good for parking are those with traffic to them, which can include expired domains that have expired traffic.

Unless you have a domain recieving tons of traffic dont look at parking a domain.

I first thought about it when I first came here there are a few catches.

Google normally does not index the site
It is against the rules to make backlinks to the site (will get you banned)

So basically you need a domain with tons of traffic. A typo domain (where the non-typo gets alot of traffic) that can work out.

Expired domains do have backlinks. So, will you get banned?

I can understand the banning if the website is an ex-educational website with educational anchor text and backlinks but the owner chooses to park it using gambling or adult keywords.

But if the parking keywords are educational, then the traffic is targetted as well. It's unfair to get banned in this case.

In my 1000+ large portfolio I have only 3 moneymaking domains: One is generic, adult, first-time registered, other two are expired dot-coms, whose .net versions were recently developed into rather popular sites. They make about 90% of my parking income.

Good traffic (large number of visitors) is not all! You need a decent conversion into clicks. For that you need to recognise what are your visitors looking for to be able to offer them attractive links generated by appropriate keywords. Not always a simple task!

The second tire of my "earning" domains (making a few dollars per month rather than per day) consists of about 30% generic new registrations and 70% expired domains. My portfolio has about 50/50 composition of these two categories.

Most of my domains earn next to nothing from parking, waiting for a good customer (end user) to buy them. Some of them are worth tens of thousends of dollars.

of course, expired domains with traffic and type-in domains will earn money.

but, in my opinion, virtually any domain can earn money, one just has to choose right low-competition and highly popular keywords and index site at least in MSN, Yahoo, and Google.

Just a note, you can park any domain you want. I am still really new to parking and domaining but ive got nearly all of my sites parked. The thing is someone in the 6 billion people on earth will finally type it in.

Example

BestTravelHealthInsurance.com (No clue what I was thinking) I got this thinking id be rich! this exact phrase is searched for (so said overtune). I parked it at boids to wait for the thing to expire and the other day 1 guy found it and clicked like 7 ads. I made $8 and the domain paid for its self. Id say it gets like 5 hits a month (magicly). At 60 hits a year if it can make $8< it can stay in my portfolio even though it sucks. So having it parked was better than nothing.

Of course as mentioned above the REAL reason to park a page is to capitalize on existing traffic. Expired domains and perfect type in hand regs fall into this. Or you may get lucky and have someone develop the .net/.org counterpart.

If you don't have a type in and need traffic from search engines your best bet is to develop the site or mini-site it (no rss scraper). Find some free/self-made content, ad a links list, toss on adsense, and lots of affiliate programs and hope for the best.

Any domain can be parked as long as getting traffic.
