I bought www.fishingshanty.com approx 2 years ago but never put any content on it.

When searching google, I now see that many variations of my name have been taken and the ones with public forums have been getting some action.
(www.iceshanty.com, www.icefishingworld.com, www.icefishing.com, www.icefishingshanty.com, etc) On a side note, it looks like www.fishingshanty.net recently died.

Now my question is: What should I do with the domain to generate revenue? Or maybe the question is: What's the value of this name?

I am not new to webdesign for internal corporate sites, but am very interested in getting into the public domain game. I'm assuming I should load it up with content and strategically place google ads?

Please point me in the right direction to conduct my research. Any recommendation for a keyword generator/site worth would be greatly appreciated.:)

Currnetly I'm parking the site on SEDO (as of yesterday) until I decide what to do based on your feedback. Thanks in advance.

There are quite a number of good outdoors affiliate programs out there, many from cj.com . There are also quite a few fishing related magazines you could sell, in addition to fishing gear, probably Amazon.com is the best bet there.

Then, of course, you've got additional pages for hunters, or outdoor campers, etc. From allposters.com , I am sure you could find hundreds of posters for a few pages of quality, framed prints relating to fishing.

There are probably a few portable fishing shanties you could resell through an affiliate program as well.

Every fisherman needs some good boots, too, so don't forget some pages from Zappos.....

You can get some content cheap from freelancewriting.com , just post a ( free ) request for fishing articles, and offer $15 apiece.... you will get 50 or 60 submissions within a week, from amateur writers to actual professionals.

And, if you need some tarps for flooring, don't forget MY affiliate program from tarice.com , sign up at shareasale.com ( I pay a 12% commission, BTW ) .......

You can do a LOT with that site!

Wow guys, thanks a ton. I'm blown away by your expertise. And I'm really blown away that the site has mid $0000 potential!! :)

I never knew you can contact companies (ie. zappos) for ads.

I'm a bit confused when it comes to the articles. What do you mean when you say "start selling fishing articles?"

Would you recommend using WordPress as a quick and easy solution? Or should I avoid blogs and stick with a more traditional site?

AND finally... I myself am an advid fisherman and have a good understanding of the ideal content for the site. Would it be a bad idea to write the articles/summaries myself based on knowledge I dig up in others' fishing forums?

Thanks again for all you advice. I am really 'geeked' to make this thing start working for me!

I just meant, buy some articles form other people, to post permanently on your site, as content.... google will come along and gobble up that content, and people will find you more easily, from a variety of searches. You have an article posted on how to use specific fishing lures, with commissionable links to those products on the same page, people will search google on those lures and find you. So, for a nominal one time expense, you gain a permanent increase in google traffic... If you can write the articles yourself, hey, great! But, using freelancewriting.com , you can get half a dozen articles posted quickly.

At cj.com, you can get generic banner ads, or specific product photos and content....

Also, I like shareasale.com , they are very trustworthy. And, for more details on affiliate marketing, check out abestweb.com .

Thanks again Rogue. I'm obviously a noob at this stuff...Does namepro have a 'rep point' program so I can give you a + rating?

Any other advice out there is gladly welcomed! I can't wait to get my feet wet.

Namepros does have a rep point, though that is not necessary. It is the little justice scales beneath your name.

PM me anytime you have an affiliate related question, I'll be glad to help.
