What registrars provide free WHOIS privacy?

I've typically used GoDaddy, but find their WHOIS privacy policy really obnoxious: they essentially give it to you free for the first year, and then charge you $20 / yr thereafter (and really annoyingly make you 'cancel' via the DomainsByProxy interface or else it will auto-renew your privacy when you renew the DN).

Are there a lot of registrars offer TRULY free privacy (aka won't extort you in future years)...i saw internetbs.net mentioned in a dif thread...any others?

I can personally recommend NameSilo, I have about 75% of my domains with them at the moment.

http://www.layeronline.com still offers free domain whois privacy for as long as you own the domain. They also offer domain typo protection and anycast dns.

Uniregistry.com - This is new registrar in the market and looks quite promising. It also provides free WHOIS.

It is owned by Frank Schilling. One of the most respected Domainer.

I think privacy is also free at Domainmonster, but you can't transfer a domain to theme with privacy enabled - you have to enable the privacy after the transfer.

I recommend Name.com , you just need to use their coupon code "PRIVACYPLEASE" when registering a domain name.

They're a good service. No nonsense, no upselling. You pay a flat price for registrations and renewals and there's no 'free the first year' bait and switch.

Personally, I use both Namecheap and NameSilo. I just started registering domain names through NameSilo and I really do like how simple it is and how their prices are clear.

Namecheap offers Whois Privacy for the 1st year of registration for free.

NameSilo offers Whois Privacy for free for as long as you are a NameSilo customer. :)

I use that too.
I wonder if that coupon works too on the 2nd year :)

Only good for the first year. $3.99 per domain, thereafter.

If Name.com goes to reliably offering free privacy, I may consider migrating a bit more heavily to them.
At this point, I'm split between Fabulous, Godaddy and just started migrating a few to Name.com as my 3rd stringers however events at Godaddy are leading me to consider consolidating a bit further. Privacy so far has tipped me towards Fab but if Name offered free privacy, that would be a majorly strong play.

Privacy at Name.com is dependent on them retaining the coupon over multiple years. Which they could withdraw at any time (and piss a lot of customers off).

I moved many of my godaddy domains to name.com with their huge anti-godaddy marketing drive... then they were caught with their pants down... they are better than godaddy IMO but are rather amateurish at times.

The free (with coupon) whois privacy is a sweetener.
