Over the last couple years hundreds of new extensions have been launched and many domain investors have registered new TLD domains. .COM continues to be the one extension which generates more AFTERMARKET sales than any other single extension. Over the years I have let many domains expire even in .COM but am targeting to get my portfolio .COM percentage around 70%. Currently I am around 66%.

96% --> .com
1.5% --> .net, .org, .me, .info
2.5% --> new gTLDs (not a big fan but nonetheless I wanted to invest in some that made sense)

Domainer since 1998.
2000 near 100% .com
2005 around 80% .com 20% .in/.co.in (when .in was launched)
2016 around 66% .com 33% .in/.co.in
Next year expect 55% .com 45% .in/.co.in
(This doesn't reflect on the value of .com, rather in comparison to quality of .in/.co.in in my portfolio and future potential of those names)

Over the years, experimented with .mobi, .ws, have some .net, .org.

approx. 40% .com
approx. 50% .org (4L)
5%+ .us
The rest are .al, .rs, .co, .ch etc.

But 90%+ of cost/value of my portfolio would be in .com. I have spent probably the same amount on 4 .coms as I have spent on the rest.

.Com truly is king I believe now. To the NPs members who called it two years ago about .Com is King when these nGTLDs started to be released, I salute you. I am a troo believer now that .Com is king. But as you can tell from my signature, I also like to make investments in nGTLDs names that make sense to me.
