Hi,

What % of a .com is a .net worth ? I have always wondered about it.

Say something.com is worth 1 million. How much will the corresponding something.net will be worth ?? I'm just looking for a rough % Can we say its worth 30% ?

I wanted to know the opinion of the Domain Pros in this forum

It all depends, a general "rule" is 10% but some names are worth more, some are worth less.

i don't know it for sure, but 10% of the .com for the .net sounds kinda low...

As mentioned above, generally speaking, it is worth 10% (The 1/10/100 rule). With that said, the highest premium generic nets are probably closer to 15-20%.

As always, it depends on the name, but those are the general guidelines.

Ditto, 10 - 15%. but it still depends.

e.g. Inter.net could be a different story.

Best example, because inter.com is also a domain hack :D

So that brings my next question. So is .TV supposedly the best alternative after a .com ? Seems like the way the premium names are priced for .TV Its seems to be better than a .net. What do you guys think ?

From my stats I see about a 12.5% value in .nets compared to .com's. This data is taken from my personal records database.

Although there are alot of variables I would have to agree with the 10% - 15% range.

No, .TV for video centric stuff and whether it's the best alternative after .com is something else that people here will either agree or disagree.

I'm vested in .TV but it seems quite alot of members believe .ASIA to be the best alternative after a .com. :tu:

I usually figure it this way. Estimated or actual .com sales price - 100% + regfee/s and/or acquisition cost + my estimated worth or value. After all thats done and sometime down the road I sell for whatever the buyers willing to pay. That is unless I blow him/her out of the water during the process. Which happens quite often. Happy valuations. :$:

If I am looking to buy a .net, I will always use the 10% rule. Don't pay more than 10% of what you would pay for the .com, however there are always exceptions (like Pizza.net).

I too go with 10-15% with exceptions for some special domains like "Pizza.net" which hits $1,125,005 on the GoDaddy Auction :)

I think 10% 0f the value of its dot com.

It really depends on the name, but a good benchmark is around the 10%
