What makes a good domain?

Aside from number of characters, what makes a good domain?

If its one word can we rely on google results to say weather or not it is good?

Say I have a domain thats one English word and the Google results are:

Results 1 - 10 of about 142,000

Does this mean it is a good domain?

You can't really rely on Google search results. All you can say from that example is that the word you have would probably be better than one with 10,000 search results.

142,000 Google results for an english word isn't really that great.
We'd need to know the exact word, and determine possible uses for the domain in order to say whether it's a good name or not.

A good domain to me has natural traffic.
