My mind was roaming through some things pertaining to DOMAINING
And I started asking myself what is the next Big thing to come.

Back in the days no one new of blockchain
Or crypto but today we all know,
The early domain investors that are always on alert, got paid handsomely

What about the Libra era that is still in the air
Well all the 1st tier name pertaining to Libra has also gone to those that got early info.

We have seen so many era and probably most of us new starters missed out

Now am hoping on the future,
I really wish to hit the jackpot when the next big thing opens up like a flower

Jackpot like the owner of blockchain.com had before it blew.

So let's discuss what in your opinion from the way the world is changing is gonna be the next big thing.

For me i think 5G will be the next big thing
Whoever got 5G.com would be very lucky by then.

Lets hear your opinions:xf.grin: and make this fun

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Future trends are definitely one of the few reasons I handreg domains .. but they make up only a VERY tiny fraction of my portfoilio.

Indeed .. 5G will obviously be big .. but that in no way means 5G domains are good investments.

5G.com has huge value because it's a cc.com .. but I personally don't have any 5G domains .. nor do I intend to invest in them .. for the very simple reason that I don't think they are good investments as a domainer.

As for Libra .. it's very risky investing in trademark domains .. particularly in this case given the specific member companies who Libra will be. If you check out my list of domains at auction today (here or at NameCult), you'll see a few LibraCoin.__ domains on auction today ... they are actually 9 years old I think .. but I didn't even consider them.

Overall I definitely do keep a look out for futuretech/trends .. but I'm starting to have decent success as a domainer buying and selling domains that people/companies/startups/end-users want TODAY! ;)

The next big thing need not be a technology or an idea. In many ways, those are difficult to foresee. For example, who among us knew 10 years ago that Blockchain or Cryptocurrency would be such big things. What about the next country to develop e-Commerce where their ccTLD may become quite lucrative or at least increase in volume, and price, in secondary markets? Of course we can also debate nTLDs. Let's recall that .com TLD was not heavily traded for decades after it first came to be. Sometimes being first also means waiting the longest to cash in. Everything is a matter of weighing cost and opportunity.

In terms of where trends are going, I always look at automation. Legal tech is huge in my view because a lot of legal work is repetitive and can be automated. Additionally, many firms (especially in the investment industry) are looking to pare down costs in their compliance departments.

I am going to go with "DeFi" as the next big thing. It is crypto, blockchains, money, real estate, investing, finance, etc.etc...all morphed into one big thing.

I think there is considerable domain speculation in the vast majority of future trends, so that in some ways the domain community have accounted for future trends just like conventional stock investment has factored into most stock prices projections for expected growth in areas.

I think in seeing future trends it is worthwhile to look both at how many domains are needed, and use DOFO to see how many are currently for sale (and registered). The ideal situation is to spot something you feel confident is a future trend, but not yet many registered. But that is very hard!

I think nanotechnology combined with medical devices so that treatments/medications can be delivered with great precision is very close to cusp of scaleable use. Internet of Nanoscale Things will be important. I am not convinced that will translate into a lot of related domain sales though.

I think there is still a lot of scaleable potential in peer to peer services. We have Uber/Lyft etc., we have AirBnB etc. We have moves to share spaces for all kinds of purposes. I think other types of products and services will expand.

Artificial intelligence is clearly already here, but the applications of it in real world day to day life still has lots of legs. Robo financial advising has become huge in last half-decade. Similar will be in other professions where AI enabled products handle routine aspects.

If I look to society it seems to me lots of justified concern around related issues: privacy, data security and others profiting from your information. While this is sort of not a new trend, I think it may well be at a tipping point where we will see some service (hopefully a domain friendly one:xf.smile:) that allows people to do much of what they like on social media, but own their contributions, and control their interactions/data.

Robotics has been here for decades, but I still see lots of life in it. Robotic surgery already big. Will be bigger in dentistry. Will be bigger in consumer level assistive services.

I think transportation is already well into major revolution away from private cars, away from gas engines. into more environmental and urban friendly alternatives like ebikes and escooters. In these and many other products the sharing economy will grow.

To some degree IoT type smart cities are more promoted than impactful, perhaps, now but I see it as a big area. Will it be good for domainers? Not sure. I like .org for this if it were not for the recent issues.

Experiences of every kind are a scaleable big thing, as people treasure experiences they have over more products.

Buy/do local will get even bigger. This is for a host of intertwined reasons and not only environmental, but partly that.

Creative side-gigs. I think more people will have side-gigs bringing in 10% or more of their income than now, and many of these will be in creative pursuits. Lots of potential for domain names here, although maybe not at very high prices.

Environmental travel. Conventional travel of jetting across oceans, taking cruises, driving long distances in private automobiles is going to be increasingly frowned upon. I think unique travel experiences that provide an experience with little impact on carbon or other environmental aspects will grow. For 2020 this is high on my priority to probably get some domain names in personally.

Happiness and Mindfulness. Mental health is health. I am always bullish on happiness :xf.smile:. As I have pointed out in other threads, the word happy sells a lot as part of a domain name in recent years.

You can return to this post in five years to see how wrong I was! D-:

Have a happy day everyone! :)

and it sure is a biggie

:)

imo...

The next big thing is AI and Blockchain combination, it will be smarter than the AI that based on search engine, 3D printing will get faster and faster, a lot of jobs about manufacturing will be replaced by machine so creation and designer will be more important, a lot of people will be working at home either small virtual office, people will have more time to travel around, so I guess .ai(artificial intelligence) and .travel and .xyz(personal design intimate) will be a big thing come up.
Finally, people will look like alien that have long finger and big head.

cryptoassets - Central Banks are scrambling, so then it's definitely on for fin sys.

m2m communication - Smart Contracts - will mean a flight agencies system will contact my email regarding refund, not the other way around. <- this example is only a taste. going to be huge in finance!

fractional ownership - being able to assetize everything, and share it with everyone through tokenisation.

everything-as-a-service - microservices, because lots of things will become asset

nodes - I think they're underrated. nodes are going to run the show

Heaps of things going on. I think if you want what you want, gotta be looking like 5 - 10 years ahead.
Not the Singularity, ahead, but think about every transaction being on blockchain, that's in like 5-7. SME will use nodes. So what will corporate reporting be like? What will transparency of personal ID look like?

Serious stuff coming ahead though, real quick!

1- The food industry in general is going through some significant changes. Delivery of both raw ingredients and restaurant food. Vegan lifestyles and fake meat are really growing. Once the real effects of global warming really start to take hold, these eco-friendly businesses are going to explode.

2- Does anyone know what's going on with the supposed changes to gambling laws in the USA? Depending on the specifics that most certainly could be a "retrend".
(@Domain Shane .. I know you've talked about this in the past .. any developments that you know of?)

3- Cannabis is already hot .. but there are still plenty of places where it's not yet legal .. so this trend potentially has a lot of growth ahead of it.

4- Alternative energies are also in their relative infancy with plenty of upcoming growth.

5- IOT .. although I'm not a huge fan of having a connected device that essentially listens to everything I say in my home. With the rise of IOT .. maybe the smart move in to invest in security related domains! lol

Yeah I think Ai, but I don't see it being as big as 5G
My own opinion

Again though .. just because 5G will be big in no way means domains that contain the term will be big. 5G technologies will almost exclusively be used by existing telecom companies already using their own brands.

Think about it .. how many end user companies are using 4G in their domains right now? I have actually never seen a 4G domain in use. I'm guessing there might be a handful .. but the chances of ever selling a 4G/5G domain are vastly below an solid 2-word domain in an industry in demand for a lot of brands.

The best case scenario is that someone sells their 5G domains to another domainer who doesn't really understand how the telecom industry relates with domains .. hopefully for a little more than the domains were purchased for.

On the other hand .. AI is a vast and broad fast growing industry where new start-ups are popping up every day. I'm not a huge fan of .AI .. but I definitely would say that good .com domains containing AI can be good investments (again .. depending on specific domains and actual prices they were acquired for).

I help run and write for a website focused on AI, robotics, VR. Obviously self-driving vehicles are going to be big. More and more cities are running tests. Driverless Shuttles that go up and down a cities main roads will probably become commonplace before driverless cars do.

Delivery robots for takeout food, small packages etc are also being tested in a lot of places (mainly college campuses, corporate parks). Companies like Amazon and Dominos have gotten some press recently.

Facial recognition everything is pretty big in China but might take some time to get adopted in the US and Europe. One exception might be airport check in gates as Delta was testing the tech in Atlanta recently. Japan is going to use the tech at a few of their major airports for the upcoming olympics.

One thing to keep an eye on is Gait recognition which is similar to facial recognition but identifies a person and their potential actions by way of movement and body type.

The speed of 5g is going to be a big deal. We recently did articles on a farm in England with robots milking cows equipped with 5G smart collars and ear tags. In Zhengzhou, China, a driverless shuttle bus that is monitored and can be controlled in real time over a 5g network.

Finally, people will look like alien that have long finger and big head.

I like this part! It is called transhumanism

"the belief or theory that the human race can evolve beyond its current physical and mental limitations, especially by means of science and technology."

Also I agree with @Internet.Domains Defi is going to be an absolute monster......

..
guess Smart Contracts (self executing contracts) will enter many aspects of life.

Also think DLT's (distributed ledger technologies) other than blockchain will come to play. Like DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph).

3rd. Self consciousness
In between those 3 "Big Data learning".

Just my humble opinion

Besides the difficulty in spotting which trend turns into something big, the name of the next big thing is probably already registered, so the best option lies in buying trend names in the aftermarket before the trend becomes clear to everyone

People have always attempted to predict the next big thing and then get in on it before everyone else jumps on the bandwagon. Very few people do this successfully because of two major limitations: the exponential rate of technological change experienced since World War II is mind-blowing literally and you do not just have to be smart enough to see the changes, you have to be smarter and quicker than everyone else. With that being said, these are my thoughts.

Humanity is on the precipice of a new era of technological change that will fundamentally alter the way that we live our lives. I believe 5G and artificial intelligence will be the vanguard technologies that allow for and shape the development of:

- edge computing

- AR/VR/XR wearables

- complex genetic editing

- Advanced haptic/4D/full immersion technology

- smarter sex tech and teledildonics

- IoT everywhere and in everything

- FinTech/DeFi

and perhaps even true artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Again, this is only my opinion. You can also throw darts at a dart board and potentially be just as accurate. We shall see as we enter this new decade.

elaborate pls
Spintronics is like giving our electronic devices a major turbo boost without guzzling more power. Instead of just using the charge of electrons, spintronics taps into their spin (think of them as tiny spinning tops). This means we can store and transfer information way more efficiently. Imagine your phone or computer being insanely faster, or your battery life lasting an eternity—spintronics is on its way to make that happen.

Take hard drives, for example. Spintronic tech has already made them store more data in less space, making your bulky old external drive look like a dinosaur. And it's not stopping there. We're talking potential for super speedy, energy-efficient electronics that could make today's tech look like it's moving in slow motion. It's like the difference between sending a letter by snail mail and shooting a text. Spintronics could literally change the game in computing, data storage, and even in medical devices. Get ready for a future where waiting for your device to 'think' becomes a thing of the past.

Not new tech but "newer" tech. With the right interest and investment this could grow imho.
