Jaik, welcome back.

No, it's not a country code, it's a Global extension, for mobile Internet.

Here is the registry http://pc.mtld.mobi/ (including the concept and hype).

And we've recently started a .Mobi sub-forum here at NP.

I never liked .mobi - too weird. Would only consider topics with cellphones and ringtones and stuff of the sort.

It's potentially one of the most significant developments in evolution of the internet. And it has received an unprecedented degree of support from large corporations.

It's important in speculating on mobi that one think about the future of mobile internet, the extraordinary convenience of unlimited broadband wireless (anytime, anywhere connection), and that .mobi is that portal. It specifies new standards of compliance that will help propel the internet onto mobile devices with some assurance of usable content. Speculative yes, interesting possibilities, exciting opportunity.

.mobi is a hype now , but do not impress from the "rush" after it.
some sales and threads on it are speculted .
Its like Wallstreet here... speculations are one of the hype in domains too.
Be careful and pick few premium .mobi for your portfolio , but only premium.
I see here some crappy .mobi domains that regged with no reason.

.MOBI got you hook, line and sinker my friend.

I don't agree that .MOBI is any better .COM... it is possible to have websites detect whether it is a mobile device that a user it visiting from and change their site accordingly. EG. Google.com appears as Google Mobile when the user visits on a mobile device.

Another way to confuse average Internet users.

If somone wants to visit my site from a mobile device I shall be changing my site, not using the dumb .MOBI. If anything I will redirect my .MOBI to my site which will change accordingly. People don't want to have to use all different names for a site. If they know it as .COM, why would they type .MOBI? There isnt even a guarantee that they own the .MOBI for their site.

Because many domainers hope that one day .mobi will become .com #2.
For me it looks like an overspeculated fad.

LINK REMOVED - What does that image have to do with .Mobi?

Avensen,

That's the second time you've posted that. I already got a complaint and deleted the other one. Please stop posting links to (what appear to be) random images and art.

It's not even spam... it's just weird.

What is CCC? I couldn't find it in the list of acronyms for us newbies and have only seen the LLL and NNN combos...

ab1.mobi
a1b.mobi
1ab.mobi
1a2.mobi

Hate to disagree with a forum leader D-: but I feel I have to voice my support for Avensen on this one...art can sometimes convey a lot more than words --the image was really food for thought with regard to registering .mobi domains, and fads/hype/market bubbles in general.

Not that I'm equally pessimistic though, just very sceptical. Good luck to all .mobi owners, might reg a few myself :)

Thanks... that would have been my guess but, you know what they say when one would choose to assume something... :o

I'm not a fan of .mobi at all. It's specifically for mobile devices, so immediately it has a limited market. Those mobile devices will continue to evolve and become increasingly powerful, thus they will be able to view standard websites on standard browsers in the next few years, thus .mobi websites will become largely unnecessary. I simply cannot see how .mobi will ever become that big.

Also, why was it called .mobi instead of .mob? Is there a reason? Most extensions are 3 characters except for 4 or 2 letters words like info, US, etc...

Imagine what the SEDO buyer "quick comment" menu would look like:

1. Please send me your traffic stats
2. Send appraisal value to other party
3. I'll make you an offer you can't refuse

:o

Strangely that is quite untrue, as there are statistically more Mobile device users than computer users... however I can't see myself using these sites from a mobile device.

Just to let you know, the vast majority of domain extensions are 2 letters, not 3 letters... however I also dont understand the point in .mobi espesially as it's quicker to type .mob on a phone than .mobi. Crazy!
