The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
Basically, you set your nameservers to the parking companies hosting.

They will then display ads on your name. When someone clicks an ad, the parking company will pay you a portion of the profit they received. It's good because you can make money with practically no work done on your part.

That's it in a nutshell. There is tons to learn, and this forum is a good place to start.

As per Wikipedia
"Domain parking is an advertising practice used primarily by domain name registrars and internet advertising publishers to monetize type-in traffic visiting an under-developed domain name. The domain name will usually resolve to a page containing relevant advertising listings and links. These links will be targeted to the predicted interests of the visitor and may change dynamically based on the results that visitors click on. Usually the domain owner is paid based on how many links have been visited (e.g. pay per click) and on how beneficial those visits have been. The keywords for any given domain name provide clues as to the intent of the visitor before arriving."

But domain parking extends more beyond just "type in traffic". You could have purchased a domain with previous established traffic or backlinks which when parked could yield you revenue per click. Basically domain parking works great for typos or domains which publishers don't intend to develop as full scale sites.

Domain parking pages generally use two formats. The one click format gives the publisher revenue on clicks based on relevant targeted ads on a single page. Whereas the two click pages first bring up a home page with relevant keyword search categories. These categories when searched upon, yield the actual revenue ads.

Both formats are popular and generate sizeable income based on the keyword chosen. Some publishers prefer the one click model as the the visitor does not need to search for the relevant category to view the ads.

What is domain parking

Baby don't hurt me...don't hurt me...no mo'...

Sorry, SOMEONE had to do it! :)

In simplest terms, parking is a means of monetizing a domain name without development. My dream is that some day, parking sites can start making turnkey sites such that at the very least, names "parked" with them will hold actual sites with products to sell. As it is, albeit being a domainer with tainted eyes, it's easy to tell when a name is parked vs. someone putting a site on it.

yes, I agree with all the namepros members above on domain parking.

to make it easier for you to understand,

domain parking is buying a domain, then let the company host it with pages of google ads, then people click the ads, you earn money.

Its a simple as that.

It means, all you have to do now, is go buy 1000 domains and park them, and just relax, watch tv, sleep, go for your dream vacation, enjoy shopping, and your domains are earning revenue for you 24 hours with you doing nothing !!!

Domain parking is like an automatic money making machine.

yes that means, you can quit your job and retire young.

Woohooo...

Domain parking is fun.:xf.love:

okay... just kidding.:hehe:

It may sound easy.. but to get 1000 domains that have traffic is quite difficult.

anyway.. good luck

First, you have to apply.

so for example, Sedo.com

register an account at sedo. then click "Add domains" and follow their instructions.

they will then tell you to set the nameserver,

so , go to your domain control panel, and set the nameservers.

once you have done all that, wait for a few minutes , then type in your domain at the browser, and you should see a parking page with full of ads.

Godaddy feels the need to keep pulling the wool over people's eyes and act as if free parking is a privelege and that you should have to pay for parking to make money off of it. It's RIDICULOUS and I'm amazed that Parsons can try to act like he's the "good guy" in his blog when he treats his customers like uninformed retards. I dunno, just my 2 cents...they've been walking a very thin line with a lot of the stuff they're doing, and I wouldn't be surprised if they start having to work much harder to retain their customers with some of the policies they've been implementing.

Hi Daniel,

The online, well respected Domain Name Journal (www.dnjournal.com) makes for interesting reading about the industry. They also have a website aimed at domain investing beginners called Name Newbie at www.namenewbie.com There's some excellent information and links to other useful websites. Good luck. CanBrit

Why isn't Go-Daddy listed? My domain is up to $15 in revenue in a week..,But they charge $3.99 fee per month

There you go. Included godaddy. I just pulled up that list from an earlier post and hadn't noticed. Anyway, that list is surely incomplete and maybe others can add new names to it. :)

ok i got some type of idea of what this domain parking business is. Now the next thing i would like to know is ... Is anyone out there really making a good ammount of money or is this just another one of those get rich quick type thing. Thank you guys for all your help.

This isn't a get rich quick type of business. There is hard work involved in researching names, typos, keywords ...etc. True, once you have a fantastic typo or domain name, making money can be relatively easy. But believe me, the guys here work as hard as any professional at a workplace.

I think I am starting to understand the biz a little bit, but I do have a question.

What do they mean by "developing" a site, does that mean that they want a real site designed/developed first or is that in relation to the parking/traffic development?

Also, which would you say is a better end of the biz, just re-selling domains or parking/ad type revenue?

Thanks in advance for your worldly knowledge!

everyone i would like to thank you for your input but please keep em coming as i would like to learn as much as possible before getting into this biz its not that i am skeptical but i need to know all the ins and outs of a business before i even think of investing any of my time into it. If you guys have any tips or things that may not work anything at all really just post it here. Your input is greatly appriciated.

How I started was, I invested $8 to buy a domain,

then i sold it for $60, so with $60 I bought more domains,

those I cannot sell, I park them,

those I can sell, I sell , make money, invest in more domains,

and just keep repeating from step 1.

:)

Interesting, so it is a combination of both!

But which is better overall?

Also, which would you recommend for highest revenue?

Or, does that depend on what the domain name is, popular ones should get sold, and the ones that are just close should get parked?

of course buying and selling is the best way to earn money quick.

if you read the parking thread, some companies even pay $0.00 for clicks.

most of them only earn $0.02 - $0.50 per click. if you are very lucky perhaps sometimes $1 - $5 per click. If you are super super lucky lucky, you can get $60 per click. but don't dream, its very rare unless you are super super lucky.

So to start, i advice you pick a real good domain name, and do your best to resell it.

repeat my steps as my post above.

But some registrar companies provide domain tasting. Which means, you buy a domain, park it for a few days, and if it does not bring revenue or traffic, then drop it and get your money back.

some typo errors might bring in good revenue from domain parking.
e.g youtueb , myspave, and so on.

Good luck :)

Thanks a ton for your help, I am beginning to like this community a great deal :)

Where is a good place to sell domain names?
Here?

Or is there just a bunch of sites?

yup here is a good place to sell.

other forums are also available such as,

DNF (paid forum)
digitalpoint forum (minimum post required)
sitepoint (paid forum to sell )
and many more.

I :xf.love: namepros :)

Sedo is free, afternic is paid.

The best thing is of course to send emails to end users. that is where the real big money comes.
