I just checked Estibot for a domain I am selling through bido,
it is parked at bodis - and never been anywhere else.

and under where it says Domain Name
there is a big blue button that says, Buy Now.

Problem is, that button leads to - BuyDomains.com WTH? :|
Who are they and why are they advertising my domain?

I do/have used afternic and I just checked,
it's not there.

What happens if someone makes an offer to them?

You get message from afrernic that someone made an offer and if you accept this offer, the sale goes by afternic escrow.

They have it as a Buy Now button..so if someone wants
to buy it at whatever price they are selling it for,
do they present it to me - less their commish - as an offer?

I wonder how much they are selling it for?

Is this normal?

It's committed elsewhere anyway :-/

I see domains of mine on SEDO regularly. Never had a SEDO account, let alone listed a domain there. The big markets are churn mills imo.

In this situation, could it be that you picked up the domain after it dropped and its previous owner had it listed and hasn't removed it from their account yet?

Wasn't a drop, I bought it from someone and
you're right it is a possibility it was listed there.
I just never saw the button till today, it wasn't there last week.

If they get an offer, your domain will be sold through whatever service you are using. I know afternic list domains for sale on buy domains, domain tools, etc... If you don't have the domain listed for sale, then it might be the domain is still on the afternic database from the previous owner...

must be a partnership with estibot.

every domain is listed for sale with afternic, even if there is no connection.

strange although because one can prefer not to be listed with them.

I have been noticing that many drops still remain advertised by BuyDomains. This aint fair especially when pricing is showed! This can ruin some good sales when price is a bargain!

@tonecas:

Sorry; I just saw your question when the thread got bumped.

I'm not familiar enough with SEDO to understand the difference in what you're saying. I've seen listings pages at SEDO which features domains of mine on multiple occasions; when I complain to them about it I never get so much as the courtesy of an acknowledgement. Since in every case the price on the domain in question has been absurdly/obscenely high, I don't worry myself too much about it, but have always assumed the domains were prior owned by someone else who happened to list them at SEDO for sale.

I've noticed that the domain brokerage business is getting extremely aggressive and are generally representing th buyer side of the business. In other words, brokers are trying to get good domain names as cheaply as possible so they can quickly flip them to buyers at the largest possible gain to the broker. This puts sellers at a major disadvantage since sellers have no view of what is going on on the other side of the curtain and have no idea of what buyers are truly willing to pay for a good domain name.

It's a seller beware market so I would suggest that you not be concerned about any of the funny business going on unless you sign a contract with a specific buyer or representative of a buyer. The domain is yours until you sign it away.

Estibot directs that link to Afternic because he probably gets a commission if they are used as the broker for the sale. Your domain is not actually listed with the service it is directed at them so they can help buy the domain for the customer.

It is like coming to me and saying you will give me $50 if I can create a deal for that domain for less than this price.

Hi Frank,

in case of estibot, it seems a partnership to list domains and get a fee if one of them sell, but I saw some that were not even listed for sale by the owner, *if I am not mistaken*.

I see partnerships for listing domains for sale as a way to do business but it puzzles me how can someone list a domain for sale that was not put for sale by the owner.

it is legit to offer a broker service if someone searches for a domain that is registered but listing it as for sale without any knowledge of the owner I don't see how.

that is why I was asking about Sedo because what I see is that they only reference that it is for sale if the domain is really for sale through their service. otherwise they just offer to try to buy the domain to you.

regards,
tonecas
