The Alexa ranking is used to estimate traffic on a website, so only domains used on websites would earn a score. This score can influence the perceived value of a domain if the buyer is knowledgeable about Alexa rankings, because it is likely the new owner would get the benefit of the traffic destined to the website. If the buyer is either unaware of the Alexa score meaning, or they have no interest in legacy traffic to the website, then the score carries no weight with the buyer.

Your fellow domain investors usually care about this stat, because it implies TRAFFIC from search and/or backlinks and/or direct users. If you are launching a business, or running an affiliate program, or lead generation, or even placing on a parking service - then traffic converts to dollars - so that is good!

Thanks for the explicit explanation, my domain has Alexa rank of 7 million now, couple of weeks ago exactly 10 weeks, it was 12 million in Alexa rank.. Pls i would like it to be ranked as close as thousands, pls what should I do to aid the rankings, the said domain is now connected to my Blogger blog.
Thanks

To improve your Alexa ranking you need to get more traffic to your website through organic methods. Lots of unique content, frequent updates, quality backlinks to you all affect Alexa. Much the same process as improving SEO. Alexa is measuring traffic from a sampled group of users who have a toolbar on their browser, so it is a little different than pure SEO - but the methods to make a website strong in SEO would have a positive correlation to what happens in Alexa.

Buying traffic has no impact on Alexa, unless the visitor (with the Alexa toolbar) 1st used search to reach your website, bookmarked your site, then returned at a later date. Ditto for social media's impact.

Alexa is a commonly used metric for potential advertisers on your site, which is another reason it can be important to a buyer.

Your blog must have traffic hence the boost you state, thats great and the next step is to become independent of any platform such as "blogger" and get your own hosting account $9.95 first year for namecheap as an example. Being under a the platform of blogger control, you are at the risk of losing it all. There are explanations for that so if you go ogle "blogger shut down my site" or something like that you will see. Suggest you start a by putting your domain elsewhere and copy all the content to your own hosting on wordpress, install yoast for SEO, contact form 7, wordfence, and whatever other plug in's. Keep the old site, work on both. Educate yourself on SEO.

Quantcast.com also measures traffic from those who subscribe to it. Major news sites use it. Alexa used to be independent, then the tool bar trick came along where people game their rankings, then Amazon bought it and all bets are off when they touch things, imho.

Hosterstats.com has lots of info, check that out too.

Backlinks are the key. PM me if you want more info.

I think Alexa is more about website popularity than domain valuation, two different things.
