it isn't really taking off as more local extensions seem to be more generally accepted.

Not have the exact figure but it has certainly go down of sales for .asia domains as all the short and good names are taken but still it is steadily growing. Let say around 30% sales ratio.

It's a bust.

Not really. More like 0.03%, if that. Care to share your stats please?

I'm not really surprised that .asia is not going anywhere tbh. There were 241,129 in Jan, now there are 211,252.

I wonder where all the ".asia is better than .com" crowd went.

Same place as all the ".mobi is better than .com" crowd went :hehe:

Any experienced domainer could tell from the outset that this extension just wouldn't work :)

well those geo domains are doing good i think .ca .co.za .cn .us(i think its doing good too?) but why won't .asia hit? i mean whats not to trust with .com.mx? .co.uk?

why won't .asia hit?
Asian countries already have ccTLDs too + .com. No real need for .asia.
There is little pan-Asian sentiment. The only credible use I see would be for larger corporations that want to set up regional portals.

Moreover, some countries like Thailand don't use their own TLD a lot. Why would they use .asia.

.ca / .co.za / .cn / .us / .com.mx / .co.uk are all ccTLDs - country specific. .Asia was touted as the asian .com, which its far from.

Thank God we still have .PRO and .TEL.
:D I quite like .pro and you left out .me

Absolutely correct.

I do not think Asians feel part of the same ethnic background/culture as some people in the EU do, I am not surprised at all the .asia extension seems to be a flop, I wonder why it was created in the first place.

Well I think it was worth a shot. Sure I'll probably drop most of mine but I'm well and truly in the black thanks to a couple of admittedly fortunate sales.

Certainly fared better than my .com investments....

As was stated above there is no reason for it to exist. Virtually all of the key Asian countries have their own highly popular ccTLD.
