Just browsing a thread then you have the 468 in the header the wide one below that then the forum sponsor bar then 2 google ad blocks in the thread and 3 banners at the bottom. Since when was there ever 8 banner ads at times? Not really important but i dont know its kinda tacky on webmaster forums i think, dont know any other who overloads with that many ads.

Advertising overload?

The google blocks in the thread are only displayed to guests. Once you login they disappear. Once logged in, the Google Adsense displays at the end of the thread. This is part of the revenue sharing program.

We've got the top 468x60 which is in the site header and the three mini-banners at the far bottom of the page. I don't think any of those four are too obtrusive, or even effect the layout much.

A new addition (rather a rehash of an old one) is the slimline banner towards the top. It's set to only display no more than twice a minute. This was brought back on request, I don't expect this to stay permanently as I like the Forum Sponsorships like is currently in the Domain Discussion and Hosting Discussion forums as a better option for advertisers.

What do you think? Suggestions?

RJ

I personally don't find the ads intrusive or "overloaded." They fit well with the theme.

They are not intrusive, you do that well but for me eight banner ads one a single page is a bit overloaded wether intrusive or not. Im sure the first time i visited this site as a guest possibly a year ago there was just a banner in the header and ads inbetween posts. I could compare to digitalpoint forums who although have seen a much faster growth in members have stuck with the simple header and ad inbetween posts rather then cashing in on every visitor as much as possible. Thats just my opinion, i just dont think milking ads on webmaster forums is the way to go.
This is a good forum but if you know seochat forums they where also but they lost a huge member base when they started putting ads everywhere. I dont know if this is the same kind of forum with as many professional users but im sure there are alot of people who also find it kind of tacky.
Just my opinion anyway.

I understand, and do want to keep a professional atmosphere and avoid overloading the site with ads.

We are an advertiser supported forum, so I have to keep some options available to please the advertisers. Which of the ad spots do you guys think are expendable?

Ack, you don't see the ads?! Time to bring in some intersitials and popups.

kidding.. kidding..

I would love just to reduce everything to the Forum Sponsorships only. I think they're great. Just simple but very effective static text links at the top of the threads within a very targeted subforum. I'm having a hard time selling these to advertisers so far.. but if it works out we'll do away with all or most of these old graphic ads.

Keep them all IMHO. I've got no problem with either the ads or the forum sponsorships.

I'd prefer it, in fact, if you kept all the current ads. I think the more money NP makes, the more likely you are to put more work and time into it. The more work and time you put into it, the more we all gain //EDIT (More competitions, more prizes and a better forum overall)

I don't find them obtrusive or OTT so it's win-win as far as I'm concerned. Keep 'em RJ! :)

I have no problems with the ads ... It takes a good bit of Hosting to keep a Forum of this size going and It has to be paid for somehow IMO ;)

I Don't personally see "8 Ads" on any pages either ?????

I count 5 and then the Adsense ads which are revenue sharing...As for the ads they are absolutely fine with me. None of the ads are intrusive, and you definitely deserve all the revenue generated by the advertising RJ. The alternative to an ad supported forum is to go over to a forum where you have to pay to even be a member, and then you are still bombarded by ads. I think I'll stay at NP...:D

You will only see 8 ads when there is a sub forum sponsor and the thin wide banner below the header. Jeter, please show me another webmaster forum with 8ads at anytime on the forum. Most large forums are not paid forums and only have a few ads, not sure where you got the only alternative is a paid forum from.
What i meant was there are plently of ways to make the same revenue without 8 banners (more then ive ever seen on any arcade, myspace, jokes etc site) It does not look professional in my opinion.
If you was to use a service such as textlinkads.com you could sell a single text link for $250-$350 / month and would have no problems selling 10+ of them a month, thus $2500-$3500 /month from text links which is the better way to go. I wasnt asking to remove all revenue sources but the same revenue could be equaled from text links pretty easily. Most authority business sites are choosing textlinks over banners now and for a reason, flashy banners dont look so good on professional sites.
I count 5 and then the Adsense ads which are revenue sharing...
There mostly not revenue sharing as the percentage signed up for revenue sharing will be a small one, also the revenue sharing is split with the forum and the users account. It wasnt about the money anyway.

I see the Domain Sponser ads (3). The Google Adwords right below the thread. (4).

The advertisement at the top right for a total of five total. The thin banner at top.. (6).

I usually do not even notice the advertisements unless I am specifically looking for them, so I would personally suggest no change.

I have no problems with the ads at all, they are fast loading, and blend well in the layout.

As one of the advertisers, and active members as well, from my perspective the ads are sometimes useful for members. They are NOT stupid ads offering unrelated, obscene, or annoying services to the users of this forum, but instead offer things such as hosting, domains, articles, parking sites, ad revenue, etc. all subjects related to the browsers of this forum.

The slim banner at the top where Live Chat is located, is only temporary in our case, however I see another advertiser recently is sharing the spot with us. I'm sure everyone would agree helping NamePros is a good cause, and one way we do so as advertisers is paying (moderate expenses too :p) for these spots. The ads are manually approved by RJ to make sure they are not annoying, obtrusive or otherwise; i.e. no one would want a banner that flashes red & black every second. The banners active now are more or less within the norms, and usually don't affect the browsing experience.

If there is ad feedback you wish to make, by all means we are are open to suggestions and/or complaints. So far, many members said good things about the ads, so it doesn't seem like an issue. Nevertheless, perhaps posting a thread in this forum, or PTS would be a good way to help us as advertisers improve the quality of the ads or services offered.

Hope that helps :tu:

We are the people who share the slim banner space on the moment.
When designing the banner I kept in mind that it should not to animanted
or annoying in anyway... As I am also a active member of Namepros.com
I kept in mind what I would like to see here and what not.

As PolurNET already said: in case you have a suggestion or comment
please do contact us. :)

with kind regards,

Faisj
