What exactly is meant about a misspelled domain?

Are both of the following situations considered misspelled domains?:

1. For example registering Ebey.com to get misspelled direct traffic for people wanting to go to Ebay.com

2.Registering a domain simply because it is a misspelling of word that lends itself to misspellings. For example: registering ExtreemWidgets.com which is a misspelling of ExtremeWidgets.com

Both examples are considered misspellings, but more commonly referred to as "typos" meaning they are common misspellings which may get a considerable amount of traffic.

Misspellings are not always traffic getters. ie.. If you registered Knawledje.com thinking you were actually getting a great domain Knowledge.com then you have just wasted your money as it will receive no traffic and have no value. However, if you register something like Recycl.com, you will see much traffic as it is a very common misspelling a.k.a. a "typo" and is considered valuable because of this.
