The status of a domain I'm looking at on GoDaddy is listed as:
HOLD
PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE
Yet it has an expiration date of 2010.

What does this mean? Is the domain going to drop?

It's pending delete but the customer can still renew it for a higher fee.

A lot of registrars add a year to give the person a chance to renew it.

Yes, it refers that the domain is in the redemption period and the owner of this domain name can still renew this domain name by paying high price for it. If this domain is not renewed then the whois status will be "Deleted and Available again"
