What does "following domain name has failed to be registered" mean?

I just reg's a couple of domains that were CLEAR and available. Then, I got an email back from the registrar that says "following domain name has failed to be registered" with a follow up that they are looking into why.

What causes this? I paid, they accepted my payment.... Is it possible that someone reg'd the name at the same moment? Maybe the database was off?

Even now, after the fact, they show free and available.

Anyone had this experience?

I've had this a few times. For whatever reason, the domain has actually been registered to another party even though it shows up as available. You should get a refund from your registrar.

Wow... actually, the domains came through. I own them. Strange.

I'm glad. Still curious as to what happened though.

Domains were:

www.ppcRev.com
www.ppcRev.net
www.ppc-ads.net
www.ppc-ads.info

I just forwarded their DNSs to my GoldKey parking account. So I'm apparently in control of them

yes, in the registration process a number of 'handshakes' take place. In the event of any malfunction you will get an error message. The 'partial' registration will then be completed/corrected by your registrar on receipt of an email.

well this happened to me couple of times before ... it is like this guy posted an available domain in the chat ... i went to register it and it was available and after i authorize the payment there was an error but domainsite always pay me bak.. so no worries

happened to me once on a .cc n they say failed to register, but godaddy refunded my money n i was in fact glad coz i regretted registering that name..kekeke..

This sort of thing happens, although it's rare. Nothing and no one's perfect,
after all.
