Well, I like their explanations for using .mobi, which are very intuitive:

1. Our URL structures stay the same, so mike.newsvine.com essentially equals mike.newsvine.mobi.

2. We don't need to insert query strings like "?mode=mobile", use cookies to store if you're mobile or not, or add another level subdomain like "mobile.mike.newsvine.com".

3. Once you're at the mobile site, we don't need to check if you're an actual mobile user on every subsequent page load. (!!!!!!!!!)

4. Most importantly, it allows us to provide a special site designed specifically for mobile devices instead of taking existing code and hacking it down until it's plausibly usable on small screens. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Nice!!! This way the consumer will always end up at the mobi site, no matter what. It makes perfect sense to me. :)

I think the top 500 internet companies need to get a memo regarding the 4 points listed above!

Here was one of the comments a guy left there:

"Sweet, now I can visit Newsvine on my BlackBerry without it looking absolutely terrible."

And not only that! I think Pinky should seriously consider this strategy in conjunction with PR Powerhouse Edelman as THE way to get to the heart of the matter of proper redirects. mTLD is in a very nice position to take on all commers (pun intended) and compete for dominance of the mobile internet. Speaking of "Mobile Internet", some have continued to claim that there is only one internet. Funny though, in most articles I've seen in the past few months, the prevailing talk seems to be about the emerging "Mobile Internet", thus creating a possible separation in the public's eyes. If it is a separate animal, then all competitive business gloves at dotmobi should come off and let's see if mobi can indeed become the DOMINANT tld. Times change and one should roll with the punches! Get to it and go for it!

every company that own a .com will own a dot mobi. I telling you .com and .mobi this is going to become a very important domain name to have. a must. What should you do?
get one before you can't get any good ones at all.
