I suspect you are going to get a refund as the policy states - "1 and 2 character domains are not currently allowed during any phase."

Also, if you look up the whois it says "ot.school domain is not supported"

If you visit the domain you wil see it is registered at uniregistry and have the default page.

I didn't knew about that rule. I will keep it in my account though, see what will happen, it was just 6 bucks.

Advantages of .school domains:

  • Clear Identity and Credibility: The most significant advantage is its immediate identification. A ".school" domain instantly tells visitors that they've landed on a website related to education. This can enhance credibility and professionalism for schools, educational organizations, and even individuals offering educational resources.
  • Availability: Unlike highly saturated domains like ".com" or restricted ones like ".edu" (which is primarily for accredited post-secondary institutions in the US), ".school" often has more desirable and short domain names available. This makes it easier for institutions to secure a name that truly reflects their identity.
  • Targeted Audience: It helps attract a specific audience – students, parents, educators, and anyone seeking educational information. This can lead to better engagement and relevance for your content.
  • Improved SEO (Potentially): While ".edu" has a strong inherent SEO advantage, a ".school" domain can still perform well in search results for education-related queries. Its direct relevance to the education sector can be a positive signal to search engines when combined with good content and SEO practices.
  • Brand Protection: Registering a ".school" domain can help protect an institution's brand and intellectual property by preventing others from using their name for unrelated or potentially misleading websites.
  • Unified Online Presence: It allows for a consistent and recognizable brand identity across a website, email addresses, and other online resources.
  • Flexibility: Unlike ".edu", ".school" is generally open to a wider range of educational entities, including private schools, K-12 schools, online learning platforms, and even individual educators or educational resource providers.
Disadvantages/Considerations of .school domains:

  • Less Established Recognition: While gaining traction, ".school" is not as universally recognized as ".com" or the highly authoritative ".edu". Some users might instinctively look for a ".com" or ".org" first.
  • SEO Learning Curve: While it can be good for SEO, institutions might still need to put in significant effort in content creation and backlinking to compete with established ".edu" or highly ranked ".com" domains in the education space.
  • Cost: While often more affordable than some premium ".com" domains, the cost of ".school" domains can vary between registrars. It's a new gTLD, so pricing might fluctuate.
  • Potential for Misuse (though limited): Since registration is generally open, there's a theoretical possibility of non-educational entities registering a ".school" domain. However, the clear meaning of "school" typically deters widespread misuse.
  • Not a Replacement for .edu for US Higher Ed: For accredited US colleges and universities, ".edu" remains the gold standard and offers unique benefits in terms of prestige and perceived authority. ".school" is more of an alternative for those who don't qualify for ".edu" or prefer a different option.
Overall Impression:

I think ".school" domains are a valuable addition to the domain landscape, especially for the education sector. They offer a clear, relevant, and often more available option for educational institutions and related services to establish a strong online presence. For K-12 schools, private schools, educational initiatives, and even educational content creators, a ".school" domain can be an excellent choice to clearly communicate their purpose and build trust with their audience.

While it won't entirely replace the long-standing authority of ".edu" for established universities, it provides a strong and distinct identity for a broader range of educational organizations worldwide. As the internet continues to evolve, specific gTLDs like ".school" help create a more organized and intuitive online experience.
