We all have domains in our portfolio that we accumulated as a result of bulk acquisitions, bad decisions, spelling errors, and whatever reason, and we also have some pretty good domains that we're just plain bored of keeping. I've bartered domains with a lot of you here and I'm trying to figure out why more people don't do the same. Do you see bartering as a waste of time that could better be spent registering/purchasing/selling domains? What do you with your unwanted domains?
Once I decide a domain is no longer viable as a potential sales name or would be a useful name as a re-direct to one of our websites, I do three things: 1. Lower / slash any listed for sale price for the remainder of the time I own the name; 2. Contact any, if any, previously interested parties in the name and mention the new lowered price; 3. Remove " auto-renewal " for the domain at the registrar and allow the name to eventually expire. Have never considered bartering an unwanted domain.
Never had the opportunity to barter but majority of the time, let them drop and it has been awhile since I gave them away for free here.. (check out the link that @Eric Lyon provided)
I drop them for them to become either auction fodder, or future somewhat gems to be found. Not a plan here. If I can't get offers of 'at least' $25-$35 for them, then those interested can go pay $60-$70+ at auction. I do too much research etc., to just 'give them away'.
I usually do one of these three: Give them away, Let them expire or sell them for a few dollars here on NamePros.
