Zero plans for me but I think it will be a good indicator if holiday sales will really suffer like everyone seems to be predicting.

Picture a time when you went to a convention or sports game; imagine seeing thousands of people.

Now, tell them there are $100 LCD TVs inside a retail store. Fill the store with those eager, cheap fans who want a $100 LCD TV.

The result? People camping out at Wal-Mart overnight in 20-degree weather to save some money on toys and electronics. Hour long checkout lines, and lots of angry people.

Most retail stores offer very good "door-buster" sales -- limited stock sale-priced items on hot-ticket items for customers that buy between 4 and 11 am.

In other words, a good reason to stay home.

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year (the day after Thanksgiving).

The reason it's called "Black Friday" is because this one day pushes retailers from the red (deficit) into the black (profit) for the year - hence the name "Black Friday"

Thanks for the explanation guys :)

Hmm.. I think I'd rather stay in.. sounds like it would be a rather traumatic experience :P

It can be pretty traumatic. I've had close friends go and basically it involves getting up very early, waiting outside stores in the cold morning hours, and then rushing in for deals that there are a limited number of in stores. It brings out every idiot in existence I think...I usually suffer enough from the traffic that it creates.

Interesting tradition. ;)

Stay off the Road ... Hopefully.

And If I do stray out to anywhere "Shopping" can occur - I'll carry a (US) Football Helmet and some Brass Knuckles for the mean little old ladies.

Well, I heard there are laptops selling for $299 and crap like that... Not worth it.

That's what newegg.com is for.
